Description

The APS_INDI alarm indicates that the multiplex section protection (MSP) switching occurs.

Impact on the System

The protected services are switched to the protection channel for transmission.

This alarm does not have any impact on services. However, if the protection channel also fails, services are interrupted.

Possible Causes

Possible causes of this alarm are as follows:

  • An alarm that triggers MSP switching, such as R_LOS, R_LOF, MS_AIS, B2_EXC, or B2_SD, is reported.
  • The external switching command is issued.
  • The attributes of the MSP group are incorrectly configured.
  • The MSP protocol is abnormal.
  • The system control unit is faulty.

Procedure

  1. Check whether the local or opposite NE reports an alarm that triggers MSP switching, such as R_LOS, R_LOF, MS_AIS, B2_EXC, or B2_SD. If an alarm that triggers MSP switching is reported, clear this alarm first.

    If... Then...

    The R_LOS, R_LOF, MS_AIS, or B2_EXC alarm is reported

    Clear the R_LOS, R_LOF, MS_AIS, or B2_EXC alarm. Then, check whether the APS_INDI alarm is cleared. If the APS_INDI alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The B2_SD alarm is reported

    If signal degrade (SD) switching is enabled, disable SD switching or clear the B2_SD alarm. Then, check whether the APS_INDI alarm is cleared. If the APS_INDI alarm persists, go to the next step.

    None of the preceding alarms are reported

    Go to the next step.

  2. Check whether the external switching command is issued.

    If... Then...

    The external switching command is issued

    Cancel the external switching command. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The external switching command is not issued

    Go to the next step.

  3. Check whether the attributes of the MSP group are correctly configured.

    If... Then...

    The attributes of the MSP group are incorrectly configured

    Apply the correct MSP group configuration. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The attributes of the MSP group are correctly configured

    Go to the next step.

  4. Enable the MSP protocol.

    Enabling/Disabling the MSP protocol is dangerous and affects services.

  5. If the alarm persists, replace the system control, cross-connect, and timing board.

    Replacing the system control, cross-connect, and timing board interrupts services. Exercise caution when performing this operation.
