Description

The ETH_APS_LOST alarm indicates that no APS frame is received from the protection channel.

Possible Causes

Possible causes of the ETH_APS_LOST alarm are as follows:

  • The opposite NE is not configured with APS protection.
  • The APS protection group is deactivated.
  • The settings of the APS protection group differ between both ends of a service.
  • The service on the protection channel is interrupted.

Procedure

  1. On the U2000, check whether the opposite NE is provided with APS protection.
    If... Then...
    No APS protection is provided Go to the next step.
    APS protection is provided Go to 4.
  2. Create an APS protection group on the opposite NE, with all parameter values the same as those for the APS protection group on the local NE. Activate the APS protection and check whether the alarm is cleared.
  3. If the alarm persists, go to 8.
  4. Check whether the APS protection protocol is activated at both ends.
    If... Then...
    The APS protection protocol is deactivated at both ends Set the state of the APS protocol to Enabled.
    The APS protection is deactivated only at one end Change the state of the APS protocol to Disabled at the activated end, and then re-activate the APS protection protocol at both ends.
    The APS protection is activated at both ends Go to 6.
  5. Check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to 6.
  6. On the U2000, check whether the settings of the APS protection group are the same at both ends. If the settings are different, modify them so that they are the same. Deactivate and then activate the APS protection groups at both ends.
  7. Check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to 8.
  8. Check whether the protection channel reports an alarm indicating signal loss or signal degrade, such as ETH_LOS. If yes, clear the alarm.
