Description

The MS_AIS alarm indicates that the last three bits of the K2 byte in the signals received by the line board are all 1.

Attribute

Communication alarm

Parameters

None.

Impact on the System

Services are unavailable. If automatic multiplex section protection (MSP) switching or path protection switching is configured, this alarm triggers protection switching. If the MS_AIS is configured as an optional clock switching condition, this alarm also triggers clock source switching.

When the MS_AIS alarm is generated, the board sends the MS_RDI alarm to the opposite end.

Possible Causes

Possible causes of this alarm are as follows:

  • A high-level alarm such as R_LOS or R_LOF, which is reported by the opposite end and inserted with the AIS alarm, is transmitted to the local end.
  • The transmit unit at the opposite end is faulty.
  • The receive unit at the local end is faulty.

Procedure

  1. Check whether the MS_AIS alarm is inserted into the transmit unit at the opposite end.

    If... Then...
The MS_AIS alarm is inserted into the transmit unit at the opposite end Cancel the inserted MS_AIS alarm.
The MS_AIS alarm is not inserted into the transmit unit at the opposite end Go to the next step.

  2. Perform a self-loop using optical fibers to check whether the transmit unit at the opposite end is faulty.

    If... Then...
The transmit unit at the opposite end is faulty Reset the line board. If the alarm persists, replace the line board.
The transmit unit at the opposite end is functioning properly Go to the next step.

  3. Perform a self-loop at the optical port using optical fibers to check whether the line board at the local end reports the MS_AIS alarm. If the line board reports the MS_AIS alarm, reset the line board. If the alarm persists, replace the line board.
