FLOW_OVER

FLOW_OVER

Description

The FLOW_OVER is an alarm indicating that the traffic flow crosses the threshold. This alarm is reported if the received or transmitted traffic flow of a certain performance monitoring object is out of the expected traffic flow.

Service alarm

Parameters

When you view an alarm on the network management system, select the alarm. In the Alarm Details field display the related parameters of the alarm. The alarm parameters are in the following format: Alarm Parameters (hex): parameter1 parameter2...parameterN. For details about each parameter, refer to the following table.

Name Meaning

Parameter 1

Indicates the directions of traffic flow threshold-crossing as follows:

  • 0x00: indicates the receive direction.
  • 0x01: indicates the transmit direction.
NOTE:

No parameter is reported if this alarm is reported by the EGT1 and EFS8 boards.

Impact on the System

The impact of this alarm on the system varies with the difference between actual traffic flow and the traffic tolerance of a port.

  • Packet loss occurs if the actual traffic flow exceeds the traffic tolerance and the flow control function is disabled when this alarm is reported, causing the service delay.
  • There is no impact on both the system and service if the actual traffic flow does not exceed the traffic tolerance when this alarm is reported. Only a message is displayed indicating that the actual traffic flow exceeds the preconfigured traffic flow threshold.

Possible Causes

The possible cause of the FLOW_OVER alarm is as follows:

The actual receive or transmit traffic flow of a certain performance monitoring object exceeds the preconfigured traffic flow.

Procedure

  1. Query the traffic at the Ethernet port. If the traffic is excessively heavy, check whether a network storm occurs. If a network storm occurs, eliminate the source that transmits a large amount of invalid data.
  2. Query the Ethernet bandwidth restriction and bandwidth usage rate. If the bandwidth restriction is configured too low, raise the bandwidth restriction or expand the network capacity.
  3. Check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, contact Huawei technical support engineers to handle the alarm.
