Description

The ODUk_PM_DEG alarm indicates that an ODUk PM signal degraded. This alarm is generated if signal degradation occurs or the bit error count exceeds its threshold when BIP8 detection is in burst mode.

k indicates the level of rate, its value is 0, 1, 2, 3, or flex.

Impact on the System

If this alarm is generated, bit errors are generated in the services carried at the optical port, which makes the service signals invalid or even unavailable.

Possible Causes

  • Cause 1: The input optical power of the board is abnormal.
  • Cause 2: The fiber on the transmission line is abnormal.
  • Cause 3: The board that reports the alarm is faulty or the board in the upstream station is faulty.

Procedure

  1. Cause 1: The input optical power of the board is abnormal.
    1. On the NMS, view the alarms on the entire network to check the slot ID, port ID, and channel ID of the board that generates this alarm.
    2. Along the service signal flow, check whether the input optical power of the optical port on the board that first generates this alarm is within the permitted range. For board optical power indicators, see "Technical Specifications" in the Hardware Description.

      1. If the input optical power of the board is within the permitted range, check for abnormal changes in optical power performance history. For details, see Querying the Optical Power. If no abnormal changes are found, go to 2. If any abnormal changes are found, go to 1.c.
      2. If the optical power is not within the permitted range, adjust the optical attenuator to change the input optical power of the board to a proper value.

    3. Check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, refer to 1.b to troubleshoot this alarm board by board along the service signal flow.
    4. Check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to 2.
  2. Cause 2: The fiber on the transmission line is abnormal.
    1. check whether the pigtail meets the following requirements:

      • The bending radius is not less than 6 cm.
      • The fiber connectors are properly installed.
      • The fiber connectors are clean.
      • The cable is intact.
      If the preceding requirements are not met, replace the pigtail. For details, see Cleaning the Optical Fiber Connector.

    2. Check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to 3.
  3. Cause 3: The board that reports the alarm is faulty or the board in the upstream station is faulty.
    1. Replace the board that reports the alarm or the faulty board in the upstream station. If the board supports pluggable optical modules, replace the specific pluggable optical modules. For details, see Replacing the Optical Module. If the board does not support pluggable optical modules, replace the board.
    2. Check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, contact Huawei to handle the alarm.
