LMFA

LMFA

Description

The LMFA alarm indicates that the local end expects to receive CRC-4 multiframes but receives only basic frames.

Attribute

Alarm Severity Alarm Type

Major

Communication alarm

Parameters

None.

Impact on the System

The alarmed E1 links become unavailable. As a result, fewer links of the IMA group are available. If the IMA group is comprised of only one link, services are interrupted.

Possible Causes

Possible causes of the LMFA alarm are as follows:

  • The E1 frame format used by the PQ1 board is the basic frame whereas the E1 frame format used by the IMA board connected to the PQ1 board is the multiframe format.
  • The E1 mapping chip on an ATM board is faulty.
  • A board is faulty.

Procedure

  1. On the U2000, check whether the E1 frame format used by the PQ1 board is the basic frame whereas the E1 frame format used by the IMA board connected to the PQ1 board is the multiframe format. If yes, modify the E1 frame formats as required to be the same. Then check whether the LMFA alarm is cleared.
  2. If the alarm persists, the E1 mapping chip on the alarmed board may be faulty. Reset (cold) the board and check whether the LFA alarm is cleared.

If the services on the alarmed board are not configured with protection, the services are interrupted after the board cold reset.

  3. If the alarm persists, replace the board that generates the LMFA alarm.

Related Information

Basic Frame

As defined in ITU-T G.704 Recommendation, even basic frames carry FAS information whereas odd basic frames do not carry FAS information.

Multiframe

A multiframe contains 16 basic frames and can be checked in the cyclic redundancy check (CRC) mode.
