Description

The DROPRATIO_OVER is an alarm indicating that packet loss exceeds the threshold due to congestion. This alarm is reported if the packet loss of a certain performance monitoring object is out of the expected range.

Parameters

When you view an alarm on the network management system, select the alarm. In the Alarm Details field display the related parameters of the alarm. The alarm parameters are in the following format: Alarm Parameters (hex): parameter1 parameter2...parameterN. For details about each parameter, refer to the following table.

Indicates the directions in which the packet loss exceeds the threshold:

  • 0x00: indicates the receive direction.
  • 0x01: indicates the transmit direction.

If this alarm is generated, the service has packet loss.

Possible Causes

The possible causes of the DROPRATIO_OVER alarm are as follows:

  • Cause 1: The service configuration is incorrect.
  • Cause 2: The actual port traffic is out of the range of limited port bandwidth or configured CIR bandwidth.

Procedure

  1. Cause 1: The service configuration is incorrect.
    1. Reconfigure the service according to the service planning.
    2. Check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to 2.
  2. Cause 2: The actual port traffic is out of the range of limited port bandwidth or configured CIR bandwidth.
    1. Query the traffic at the Ethernet port. If the traffic is excessively heavy, check whether a network storm occurs. If a network storm occurs, eliminate the source that transmits a large amount of invalid data.
    2. Query the Ethernet bandwidth restriction and bandwidth usage rate. If the bandwidth restriction is configured too low, raise the bandwidth restriction or expand the network capacity.
    3. Check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, contact Huawei technical support engineers to handle the alarm.

    NOTE:

    When the alarm indicating that packet loss exceeds the threshold in the receive direction is reported, check the processing method of red packets. If red packets are not discarded, there is no packet loss in the receive direction.

CIR is a traffic parameter, indicating the permitted transmission information rate when services are successfully transmitted. That is the rate that tokens are transmitted to the leaky bucket (unit: bit/s). Only when the number of tokens is equal to or larger than the length of packets, can the extra tokens pass through the leaky bucket.
