CES_JTRUDR_EXC

Description

The CES_JTRUDR_EXC alarm indicates that the average number of underflows per second in the jitter buffer is larger than the upper threshold value in a period. If the average number of underflows per second is smaller than the lower threshold value in another period, this alarm is cleared automatically.

NOTE:

Underflows occur when the jitter buffer does not have packets to be transmitted.

Impact on the System

No packet will be transmitted from the buffer and therefore the buffer underflows. As a result, service transmission is affected.

Possible Causes

Possible causes of the CES_JTRUDR_EXC alarm are as follows:

  • Clocks are not synchronous.
  • A service loop is formed.
  • The network is congested.
  • Link signals deteriorate or are interrupted due to a fault in cables, optical fibers, or optical modules.

Procedure

  1. Check whether the LTI alarm or other clock-related alarms are generated on the alarmed NE. If such alarms are reported, clocks are not synchronous and the incoming rate of the buffer is far lower than the outgoing rate of the buffer.
  2. If the LTI alarm and other clock-related alarms are reported, clear the alarms first and then check whether the CES_JTRUDR_EXC alarm is cleared. If the CES_JTRUDR_EXC alarm persists, go to 3.
  3. If service packets are looped back at the local end, the NE at the opposite end cannot receive packets. In this case, the NE at the opposite end reports an underflow alarm and the NE at the local end reports a loopback alarm. Check whether the services at the local end are configured into a loop. If yes, change the service configurations.
  4. Check whether the CES_JTRUDR_EXC alarm is cleared. If the CES_JTRUDR_EXC alarm persists, go to 5.
  5. If heavy traffic on the local port causes network congestion, packets are lost. As a result, the NE at the opposite end cannot receive packets and reports an underflow alarm. Check whether the local port is fully loaded with traffic.
  6. If network congestion occurs, find out the source that transmits a large amount of data and adjust the traffic allocation on the ports. Then, check whether the CES_JTRUDR_EXC alarm is cleared.
  7. If the CES_JTRUDR_EXC alarm persists, go to 8.
  8. Check whether cables or optical fibers are incorrectly connected to the ports and whether the ports are dirty.
  9. If the cables or optical fibers are incorrectly connected, reconnect the cables or optical fibers.
  10. Check whether the CES_JTRUDR_EXC alarm is cleared. If the CES_JTRUDR_EXC alarm persists, replace the cables, optical cables, or optical modules/boards.
  11. Check whether the CES_JTRUDR_EXC alarm is cleared. If the CES_JTRUDR_EXC alarm persists, contact Huawei technical support engineers to handle the alarm.

When the delay for an NNI port to receive CES packets is unstable, the percent of the CESoETH frames underflowing from the jitter buffer exceeds the specified percent threshold. As a result, the jitter buffer underflows. If the percent of the CESoETH frames underflowing from the jitter buffer is larger than the specified percent threshold within a certain period, the average number of underflows in a second becomes larger than the upper percent threshold. The CES_JTRUDR_EXC alarm is then reported.
