IN_PWR_ABN

IN_PWR_ABN

Description

The IN_PWR_ABN alarm indicates that the input optical power of the laser on the board crosses the lower or upper threshold.

Attribute

Alarm Severity Alarm Type

Major

Communication alarm

Parameters

None.

Impact on the System

Bit errors may occur during service transmission, service signals cannot be aligned, or services may be interrupted.

Possible Causes

Possible causes of this alarm are as follows:

  • The input optical power is out of range.
  • The fiber connector is dirty or loosely connected.
  • The detector or amplifier circuit fails.
  • The transmit unit at the opposite end is faulty.
  • The receive unit at the local end is faulty.

Procedure

  1. Check the input optical power of the board.

    If...

    Then...

The input optical power is higher than the upper threshold

Increase the attenuation of signals in transmission. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

The input optical power is lower than the lower threshold

Decrease the attenuation of signals in transmission or increase the transmit optical power at the opposite end. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

The input optical power is within the specified range

    Go to the next step.

  2. Perform loopbacks at the local end and the opposite end to locate the faulty board.

    If... Then...

The transmit unit at the opposite end is faulty

Replace the faulty board at the opposite end.

The receive unit at the local end is faulty

Replace the faulty board at the local end.
