AU_LOP

Description

The AU_LOP is an alarm indicating the loss of the AU pointer. This alarm occurs when the optical interface of the local NE receives the AU pointers with NDF or of invalid values for eight consecutive frames.

Impact on the System

If no network protection is configured, path-level services are interrupted.

The system sends the HP_RDI alarm to the opposite end. If subnetwork connection protection (SNCP) is configured, the signal fail (SF) switching occurs.

Possible Causes

Possible causes of this alarm are as follows:

  • The local end receives excessive bit errors.
  • The level of concatenated services transmitted by the opposite end is different from the level of concatenated services that the local end is supposed to receive.
  • The transmit unit or timing unit at the opposite end is faulty.
  • The transmit unit or timing unit at the local end is faulty.

Procedure

  1. On the U2000, check whether the board that reports the AU_LOP alarm also reports a bit error alarm, such as B1_EXC, B1_SD, B2_EXC, or B2_SD.

    If... Then...
    The board reports a bit error alarm Clear the bit error alarm. Then, check whether the AU_LOP alarm is cleared. If the AU_LOP alarm persists, go to the next step.
    The board does not report a bit error alarm Go to the next step.

  2. Check whether service configurations at the local end and the opposite end are correct, for example, check whether the level of concatenated services transmitted by the opposite end is different from the level of concatenated services that the local end is supposed to receive.

    If... Then...
    The service configurations are incorrect Correct the service configurations. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.
    The service configurations are correct Go to the next step.

  3. Check whether the timing unit is functioning properly and whether the cross-connect unit detects the clock at the opposite end.

    If... Then...

    The timing unit is not functioning properly or the cross-connect unit does not detect the clock

    Replace the system control, cross-connect, and timing board at the opposite end. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The timing unit is functioning properly and the cross-connect unit detects the clock

    Go to the next step.

  4. Check whether the timing unit is functioning properly and whether the cross-connect unit detects the clock at the local end.

    If... Then...

    The timing unit is not functioning properly or the cross-connect unit does not detect the clock

    Replace the system control, cross-connect, and timing board at the local end. Then, check whether the alarm is cleared. If the alarm persists, go to the next step.

    The timing unit is functioning properly and the cross-connect unit detects the clock

    Go to the next step.

  5. Set a loopback at the local end and a loopback at the opposite end. Replace the faulty board that is detected in the loopbacks.
