Configuring Address Resolution

Dynamic Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) learning is implemented by the dynamic ARP. It automatically maps IP addresses and MAC address, requiring no manual configuration of an ARP table. Generally, dynamic ARP learning is applicable to networks with many NEs. Dynamic ARP protocol packets, however, may significantly affect NE operating. For static ARP configuration, the ARP table, namely, mapping between IP addresses and MAC addresses, is configured manually, but NE operating is not affected by static ARP protocol packets. Static ARP configuration is applicable to small networks with specific NEs and NE ports used.


You are an NM user with Administrators rights or higher.


  1. In the NE Explorer, select the NE and choose Configuration > Packet Configuration > Control Plane Configuration from the Function Tree.
  2. Click Aging Time to set the aging time for ARP table entries.
  3. Click Address Parse. In the right pane, click Create and specify required parameters in the displayed Add Address Parse dialog box.

  4. Set the IP address and MAC address for each ARP table item, and then click Apply. For details about the parameters, see Parameter Description: Address Parse.

    When configuring the MAC address of each ARP table item, ensure that the first digit of the address is an even number.

  5. After the setting is complete, click OK.

    Configuring the address resolution refers to creating the static ARP table items. To delete the dynamic ARP table items, click Clear. This operation, however, clears all the contents in the ARP table items and interrupts the services. Hence, exercise caution when performing this operation.


    Click Delete to delete the contents of the static ARP table items.

  6. Setting the ARP spoofing alarm threshold.
    1. In the NE Explorer, select the desired NE from the object tree and choose Diagnosis&Maintenance > ARP Anti-spoofing from the Function Tree.
    2. Click the Basic Configuration tab page.
    3. Set Alarm threshold according to specific requirements.

  7. Querying the ARP blacklist.
    1. In the NE Explorer, select the desired NE from the object tree and choose Diagnosis&Maintenance > ARP Spoofing from the Function Tree.
    2. Click the Blacklist tab page.
    3. Click Query to obtain the ARP blacklist.
