Configuring Hotline Services

This section describes how to configure hotline services. In hotline services, foreign exchange station (FXS) ports are used in pairs to transmit private telephone data.

Networking Diagram

Hotline services (block telephone services), also called driving telephone services between stations, are used for point-to-point voice communication between adjacent stations and can be connected upon off-hook without dialing.

Figure 2-25 shows the networking diagram for hotline services. Hotline services are deployed between airport terminals User A and User B. User A and User B can perform point-to-point voice communication upon off-hook without dialing to shift air traffic control. Hotline services are applicable to railway and grid networks.

This topic considers the OptiX OSN 580 as an example to describe the board layout. In the case of other products, the configuration method is the same, except for the slots. For the slot information, see the Hardware Description of the relevant product.

Service Planning

This section describes the parameters required for configuring hotline services.

A telephone is connected to each of NE 1 and NE 2. Each of NE 1 and NE 2 requires a 64 kbit/s service channel. Table 2-16 provides the timeslot allocation of a 64 kbit/s service channel.

  • The hotline services occupy the SDH_TU-65 channel during the transmission at the PCM port side.
  • The hotline services occupy the first VC-12 timeslot in the first VC-4 (VC4-1:VC12-1) on the SDH link between NE 1 and NE 2 during the transmission at the SDH network side.

Configuration Procedure

This section describes the procedure for configuring hotline services.

Prerequisites

Procedure

  1. Configure a pulse code modulation (PCM) service on NE 1.
    1. Navigate to the NE Explore of NE1, select the desired FXSO12 board, and configure the attributes of the port for receiving and transmitting the PCM service.

      NOTE:

      In this example, retain the default values for the other parameters in the Port Management window. On live networks, set these parameters according to the network plan. For details about the parameters, see Port Management Parameters.

    2. Configure a 64 kbit/s service.

    3. Configure the cross-connection between the PCM service and an SDH link.

  2. Configure a PCM service on NE 2.

    Follow instructions in 1 to configure a PCM service on NE 2.

  3. Check whether the service is correctly configured by following instructions in Testing FXS Hotline Services.
  4. Enable the performance monitoring function for the NEs by following instructions in Enabling NE Performance Monitoring.
  5. Back up the configuration data of the NEs by following instructions in Backing Up the NE Configuration Data to the SCC Board.
