Configuring Aggregation of Services from Multiple PCM Boards to One E1 Service

Low-speed services from multiple PCM boards can be carried by one VC-12 on the transmission side. This section uses AT8+DXM as an example to describe how to configure aggregation of services from multiple PCM boards to one E1 service. If FXSO12+DXM is used or if access boards and aggregation boards are not at the same site, you can also refer to the configuration example described in this section.

Networking Diagram

This section describes the network on which services from multiple PCM boards are aggregated to one E1 service.

On the network shown in Figure 2-40, the service plan is detailed as follows:
  • 64 kbit/s signals from user A1 are received on ports DDN1 to DDN3 of the 3-AT8 board.
  • 64 kbit/s signals from user A2 are received on ports DDN1 to DDN3 of the 4-AT8 board.
  • All signals from the AT8 boards (including signals from user A1 and user A2) are aggregated at a DXM board and transparently transmitted to SL4D line boards.
  • NE1 and NE2 use SL4D line boards to transmit SDH service signals.

NOTE:

This topic considers the OptiX OSN 580 as an example to describe the board layout. In the case of other products, the configuration method is the same, except for the slots. For the slot information, see the Hardware Description of the relevant product.

Signal Flow and Timeslot Allocation

This section describes the signal flows of aggregating services from multiple PCM boards to one E1 service as well as timeslot allocation.

Signal flows are planned as follows:
  • Signals from user A1 are received on ports DDN1 to DDN3 of the 3-AT8 board on NE1 and aggregated to timeslots 1 to 3 of port 3-AT8-65.
  • Signals from user A2 are received on ports DDN1 to DDN3 of the 4-AT8 board on NE1 and aggregated to timeslots 1 to 3 of port 4-AT8-65.
  • Port 3-AT8-65 and port 14-DXM-65 on NE1 are interconnected through a VC-12 cross-connection, and signals over timeslots 1 to 3 of port 14-DXM-65 are aggregated to timeslots 1 to 3 of port 14-DXM-67.
  • Port 4-AT8-65 and port 14-DXM-66 on NE1 are interconnected through a VC-12 cross-connection, and signals over timeslots 1 to 3 of port 14-DXM-66 are aggregated to timeslots 4 to 6 of port 14-DXM-67.
  • Port 14-DXM-67 on NE1 and the 10-SL4D board are interconnected through a VC-12 cross-connection.
  • NE1 transmits signals to NE2 through the 10-SL4D line board.
  • NE2 delivers services to user B through the 3-AT8 board.

Configuration Process

This section describes how to configure aggregation of services from multiple PCM boards to one E1 service.

Prerequisites

Procedure

  1. Set port management parameters on AT8 boards of NE1.
    1. Set port management parameters on the 3-AT8 board.

      In the NE Explorer of NE1, select the 3-AT8 board and choose Configuration > Port Management from the Function Tree. On the ATI Port Configuration tab page, set the parameters and click Apply. On the Advanced Configurations tab page, set A-Law/μ-Law.

      • Click Create in the lower part of the right pane. In the displayed Create SDH/PDH Service dialog box, set the required parameters and click Apply.

  6. Enable the performance monitoring function for the NEs by following instructions in Enabling NE Performance Monitoring.
  7. Back up the configuration data of the NEs by following instructions in Backing Up the NE Configuration Data to the SCC Board.

Follow-up Procedure

If the audio quality of the service configured on an AT8 board is poor, adjust the receive and transmit gain for the port on the AT8 board as required.

  1. In the NE Explorer, select the AT8 board and choose Configuration > Port Management from the Function Tree.
  2. On the ATI Port Configurations tab page, change the values of TX Gain(dB) and RX Gain(dB) for the port, and click Apply.
