Configuring G.703 64 kbit/s Codirectional Services

G.703 64 kbit/s codirectional services allow baseband digital signals to be directly transmitted on pulse code modulation (PCM) channels, with the goal of fully utilizing standard 64 kbit/s voice channel resources. 64 kbit/s codirectional services commonly apply to dedicated communications networks such as electricity networks and rail transport networks.

Networking Diagram

This section describes the networking of NEs.

Figure 2-35 illustrates the networking of a G.703 64 kbit/s codirectional service. With NE 1 interconnecting with one protective relay control device and NE 2 interconnecting with another protective relay control device, NE 1 and NE 2 achieve communication between the two protective relay control devices.

Service Flow Directions and Timeslot Allocation

A DXM12 board receives G.703 64 kbit/s codirectional services through its codirectional serial ports, aggregates and processes the G.703 64 kbit/s codirectional services, and transmits the G.703 64 kbit/s codirectional services to an SDH network. The SDH network transparently transmits the G.703 64 kbit/s codirectional services to a remote node.

Each of NE 1 and NE 2 needs one 64 kbit/s service channel. Table 2-61 lists timeslots allocated to the 64 kbit/s service channels.

Perform the following operations for transmission of the G.703 64 kbit/s codirectional service:

  • Allocate VC-12-1 of VC-4-1 (VC-4-1: VC-12-1) of the SDH link between NE 1 and NE 2 to transmit the codirectional service on the SDH network side.
  • Allocate channel SDH_TU-65 to transmit the codirectional service on the PDH interface side.

Configuration Procedure

This section describes the procedure for configuring a G.703 64 kbit/s codirectional service.

Prerequisites

Procedure

  1. Configure a G.703 64 kbit/s codirectional service on NE 1.
    1. Configure the port receiving the codirectional service.



    2. Configure the PDH interface.



    3. Configure a 64 kbit/s service.



    4. Configure the cross-connection from the G.703 64 kbit/s codirectional service to the SDH link.



  2. Configure a G.703 64 kbit/s codirectional service on NE 2.

    The procedure for configuring a G.703 64 kbit/s codirectional service on NE 2 is the same as that for G.703 64 kbit/s configuring a codirectional service on NE 1.

  3. Check whether the services are correctly configured by following instructions in Testing DDN Services.
  4. Enable performance monitoring on both NE 1 and NE 2. For details, see Enabling NE Performance Monitoring.
  5. Back up the configuration data of both NE 1 and NE 2. For details, see Backing Up the NE Configuration Data to the SCC Board.
