Deploying the RD Licensing Server

Scenarios

This section describes how to deploy the RD Licensing server.

Prerequisites

You have logged in to the ServiceCenter tenant portal using the resource administrator account.

Procedure

Creating a VM

  1. On the ServiceCenter tenant portal, choose Computing > Elastic Cloud Server and click Create ECS.
  2. Set the parameters according to Table 8-3. Retain the default values for the parameters that are not involved or set the parameters according to the actual requirements. Click Apply Now.

Adding the VM to a domain

  1. Log in to the VM for deploying the RD-Licensing component as Administrator.
  1. On the VM, click , enter sysdm.cpl and press Enter.

    The System Properties window is displayed.

  2. Click Change.

    The Computer Name/Domain Changes dialog box is displayed.

  3. Set the following parameters and click OK, as shown in Figure 8-4.

    • Computer name: Enter the planned computer name, for example, RD-licensing.
    • Domain: Enter the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the domain, for example, vdesktop.huawei.com.

  4. Enter the username and password of the domain administrator to be added to the domain and click OK.
  5. Complete the configuration as prompted, restart the VM, and log in to the VM using the administrator account.

Adding the domain accounts to the administrator group

Add the following accounts to the administrator group:

  • Domain administrator account (for example, vdesktop\vdsadmin)
  • Domain account for logging in to a server (for example, vdesktop\vdsuser)
  1. Click , enter compmgmt.msc, and press Enter.

    The Computer Management window is displayed.

  2. Choose System Tools > Local Users and Groups > Groups.

    The group list is displayed in the right pane.

  3. Right-click Administrators and choose Add to Group from the shortcut menu.
  4. Click Add. In the Enter the object names to select area, enter Domain account for logging in to a server, for example, vdesktop\vdsuser, and click OK.

    The Enter Network Credentials dialog box is displayed.

  5. Enter the username and password of the domain administrator and click OK twice.
  6. Repeat Step 9 to Step 13 to add other domain accounts to the administrator group.

Installing the remote desktop licensing service

  1. Log out of the RD Licensing server, and log in to the RD Licensing server again using a domain account, for example, vdesktop\vdsuser.
  2. On the taskbar, click .

    The Server Manager window is displayed.

    NOTE:

    If the system displays the Server Manager window after the VM is logged in to, you do not need to perform this operation. Refer to this note if similar cases occur.

  3. In the Server Manager window, click Add roles and features in the right pane.

    The Add Roles and Features Wizard window is displayed.

  4. Retain the default settings and repeatedly click Next.

    The Select server roles window is displayed.

  5. Select Remote Desktop Services, as shown in Figure 8-5. Repeatedly click Next.

  6. Select Remote Desktop Licensing.

    The Add Roles and Features Wizard window is displayed.

  7. Click Add Features.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Click Install.
  10. Close the installation page when the remote desktop licensing function is installed.

Activating the license server

  1. Log in to the RD Licensing server using a domain account, for example, vdesktop\vdsuser.
  2. On the Windows OS, right-click the taskbar and choose Properties.

    The Taskbar and Navigation properties window is displayed.

  3. Set Taskbar location on screen to Right, and click OK, as shown in Figure 8-6.

  4. On the taskbar, click .

    The Start page is displayed.

  5. Choose Administrative Tools > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Licensing Manager. In the displayed dialog box, click Yes.

    The RD Licensing Manager dialog box is displayed.

  6. In the navigation tree, unfold All servers. Right-click a computer name and choose Activate Server from the shortcut menu.

    The Activate Server Wizard dialog box is displayed.

  7. Click Next.
  8. In the Connection Method dialog box, select Connection Method based on the actual situation, for example, select Web Browser when the server cannot access the Internet, and click Next.
  9. In the License Server Activation dialog box, record the Product ID.
  10. Log in to https://activate.microsoft.com using a computer that can access the external network.
  11. Enter product and company information as prompted, repeatedly click Next, and record the license server ID.
  12. Click Yes.
  13. In Licensing Information, select a license type, for example, Open License.
  14. Click Next.
  15. In Product Information, select Product Type based on requirements. For example, select Windows Server 2012 Remote Desktop Services Per User client access license, and enter Quantity, Authorization Number, and License Number.

    NOTE:

    Obtain Authorization Number and License Number from documents delivered to the site.

  16. Click Next.

    The license key pack ID is displayed.

  17. Record the license key pack ID, and click Finish.
  18. Return to the RD Licensing server. In the License Server Activation dialog box, enter the license server ID and click Next.
  19. In the Completing the Activate Server Wizard dialog box, deselect Start Install Licenses Wizard now and click Finish.

Configuring the license key pack ID

  1. In the navigation pane of the RD Licensing Manager window, right-click a computer name and choose Properties.

    The Computer name Properties dialog box is displayed.

  2. Click the Connection Method tab, and select Connection Method based on the actual situation, for example, Web Browser.
  3. Click the Required Information tab, enter required information, and click OK.
  4. In the navigation tree of the RD Licensing Manager window, right-click a computer name and choose Install Licenses.

    The Install Licenses Wizard dialog box is displayed.

  5. Click Next.

    The Obtain Client License Key Pack window is displayed.

  6. Enter the obtained license key pack ID, and click Next.
  7. Click Finish.
  8. In the navigation pane of the RD Licensing Manager window, check whether the computer name is marked with .

    • If no, the license key pack is configured.
    • If yes, go to Step 52.

  9. Unfold All servers, and click Review Configuration in the right pane.

    The Computer name Configuration dialog box is displayed.

  10. Click Change Scope.

    The RD Licensing Manager dialog box is displayed.

  11. Click Continue.
  12. Change the configuration scope based on the actual situation.
  13. Return to the Computer name Configuration window, and click Add to Group.

    The RD Licensing Manager dialog box is displayed.

  14. Click Continue.

    Enter the username and password of the domain account. The system automatically adds the RD Licensing server domain account to the terminal server licensing server group in the Active Directory domain service.

  15. Click OK twice.

    The configuration is complete.

Installing the antivirus software client

Ensure that the antivirus server has been installed and the network of the antivirus server can communicate with the network of the RD Licensing server.

  1. Open Internet Explorer, enter https://IP address of the antivirus server:4343/officescan in the address box, and press Enter.

    The Security Alert dialog box is displayed, showing "You are about to view pages over a secure connection."

  2. Click OK.

    The system displays "There is a problem with this website's security certificate."

  3. Click Continue to this website (not recommended).

    The Security Alert dialog box is displayed, showing "You are about to view pages over a secure connection."

  4. Click OK.

    The Internet Explorer dialog box is displayed, prompting you to add the website to trusted websites.

  5. click Add.

    The Trusted sites dialog box is displayed.

  6. click Add.

    The IP address of the antivirus server is added to Websites.

  7. Click Close.

    The login page of the OfficeScan Web Console is displayed.

  8. Click the message displayed in the upper part of the page, and select Install This Add-on for All Users on This Computer.

    The Internet Explorer - Security Warning dialog box is displayed asking you to install AtxEnc.cab.

    NOTE:

    If the installation fails, reinstall the antivirus client.

  9. Click , select Always install software from Trend Micro, Inc., and click Install.

    The Internet Explorer - Security Warning dialog box is closed.

  10. In the lower part on the login page of the OfficeScan Web Console, click the hyperlink for installing the client, for example, https://IP address of the antivirus server:4343/officescan/console/html/ClientInstall/.

  11. Select Download 32–bit Package Now or Download 64–bit Package Now based on the client OS.
  12. Install the software as prompted.
  13. Close Internet Explorer.

Activating the OS

  • The license provided for the VM that runs Huawei standard Windows Server 2012 R2 OS has a trial period of 30 days only. Users should purchase and activate the original license file.
  • Use the English product SN for an English OS. If a product SN of another language is used, blue screen of death (BSOD) will occur on the infrastructure VM.
  1. On the taskbar, right-click .

    The Start menu is displayed.

  2. Choose Control Panel.

    The Control Panel window is displayed.

  3. Choose System and Security > System.

    The System window is displayed.

  4. Click Activate Windows in the Windows Activation area.
  5. Enter the OS SN. Click OK to activate the Windows OS.
