Configuring Interoperation Between CE Series Switches and Servers Using HP Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 331T Network Adapters (NFT Mode)
Applicable Products and Versions
This example applies to CE series switches of V100R001C00SPC200 or later versions.
Networking Requirements
As shown in Figure 2-5, a server uses a network adapter group consisting of two HP Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 331T network adapters that connect to two switches, respectively. It is required that the two network adapters work in active/standby mode. If the active network adapter or interface connected to the active network adapter fails, traffic can be automatically switched to the standby network adapter, preventing service interruptions.
Configuration Roadmap
- Add 10GE1/0/1 of SwitchA and 10GE1/0/1 of SwitchB to the same VLAN.
- Configure the network adapter group to work in Network Fault Tolerance Only (NFT) mode. In this mode, only the active network adapter in the group transmits data. If the active network adapter or link connected to the active network adapter fails, the standby network adapter takes over data transmission.
Procedure
- Configure a VLAN on CE series switches. Create VLAN 2 and add Ethernet interfaces connected to the server to VLAN 2. The following uses SwitchA as an example. The configuration of SwitchB is similar to that of SwitchA, and is not mentioned here.
<HUAWEI> system-view [~HUAWEI] sysname SwitchA [*HUAWEI] commit [~SwitchA] vlan batch 2 [*SwitchA] interface 10ge 1/0/1 [*SwitchA-10GE1/0/1] port default vlan 2 [*SwitchA-10GE1/0/1] commit
- Configure a network adapter group on the server.
- Choose Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center. Click Change adapter settings. The Network Connections page is displayed.
- Right-click a network adapter to be added to the network adapter group, and click Properties. The Local Area Connection Properties window is displayed.
- Click the Network tab page. In the This connection uses the following items: area, double-click HP Network Configuration Utility. The HP Network Configuration Utility Properties window is displayed.
- Select interfaces to be aggregated and click Team. The Team Properties window is displayed. Configure properties of the network adapter group.
- Click the Teaming Controls tab page, (optional) rename the network adapter group, for example, WF, in the Team Name text box. Set the network adapter group type to Network Fault Tolerance Only (NFT) in the Team Type Selection drop-down list box, and click OK.
- In the HP Network Configuration Utility Properties window, you can click Properties in the lower right corner to configure default options such as VLAN. You can change the default configurations based on actual requirements.
- Choose Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center. Click Change adapter settings. The Network Connections page is displayed. Right-click the created network adapter group, and click Properties.
- Click the Network tab page and double-click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) to configure the IP address of the network adapter group.
- In the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties window, select an IP address obtaining mode, and click OK.
Checking the Configuration
- On the CE switch, ping the IP address of the server in the user view. The ping succeeds.
Check properties of the created network adapter group WF. On the Network Connections page, right-click the created network adapter group, and click Properties. In the window that is displayed, click Config, and click the Settings tab page. Check the network adapter group status based on information in Table 2-11.
