USB Passthrough ECSs

Application Scenarios

Some applications will run properly only when they work with a license device, such as a USB dongle. You can use USB passthrough ECSs to deploy applications of this kind. This type of ECS is supported only in Type II and Type III scenarios.

Restrictions

  • USB passthrough ECSs do not support live migration, cold migration, flavor change, or VM HA.
  • USB passthrough ECSs support:
  • Security
    • Tenant isolation is not performed. Multiple users can share a USB, but only one user can use the USB at a time.
    • Security isolation is not performed. The system cannot ensure that the data stored on the USB has no security risks, such as viruses. Ensure your own data security.
  • If FCD is used to set up the environment during installation and USB passthrough ECSs are not planned, use USB passthrough ECSs after the environment is established.
    • You need to log in to the physical server to enable intel_iommu. For details, see Product Management > FusionSphere OpenStack > Configuring GPU and USB Parameters of KVM-Based Compute Nodes in FusionCloud 6.3.0 O&M Guide.
    • Log in to the cascaded FusionSphere OpenStack web client as the admin user before applying for an ECS. In the Region Type I scenario, log in to the cascaded FusionSphere OpenStack web client. In the Region Type II/III scenario, log in to the FusionSphere OpenStack web client. The default password is cnp200@HW.
      1. Choose Configuration > OpenStack > Nova.
      2. Click Edit on the right of USB Passthrough.

        The USB Passthrough configuration screen is displayed.

      3. Configure the following parameters:
        • USB Alias: Customize the USB alias for future use.
        • Set Supplier ID, Product ID, and Device Type based on the device requirements.
        NOTE:

        To view Supplier ID and Product ID, perform the following steps:

        1. Log in to the physical server where the USB device is used as user fsp. The default password is Huawei@CLOUD8.
        2. Run the following command to view Supplier ID and Product ID:

          /opt/cloud/services/nova/venv/bin/python2.7 -c "from nova.huawei.usbdevice import utils;print utils.get_usb_on_host_for_user()"

          Information similar to the following is displayed. The 3rd field indicates Supplier ID and the 4th field indicates Product ID.

      4. Click Add.
