Figure 7-15 shows the components of EVS and the position of EVS in the system architecture when EVS provides storage space for the ECS.

Figure 7-15 Logical architecture of EVS
Table 7-5 EVS-related components

Management domain

O&M management

O&M management provides unified O&M capabilities for virtual and physical resources, improving O&M efficiency.

Operation management

Operation management provides unified operation management for cloud services, improving the operation agility and service operation efficiency.

Identity Access and Management (IAM) provides identity and access management for EVS.

The SDR provides the function of metering and charging resources.

eSight provides performance monitoring and alarm generation.

Service OM

Provides cloud service O&M capabilities.

Cloud services

Console: ECS UI

The ECS UI provides the ECS and EVS management consoles.

Service: Combined API

The combined API functions as the server of the ECS and EVS, receives requests from the ECS and EVS management console, and invokes FusionSphere OpenStack components.

Common component: API Gateway

Third-party applications call EVS APIs through the API Gateway.

Common components: CCS

Cloud Configuration Service (CCS) provides the cloud resources access service based on the private cloud and enables you to configure the EVS disk type.

Common component: SDR

SDR generates metering and billing SDRs for EVS.

Resource pools

FusionSphere OpenStack Nova

Nova manages computing instances. In the EVS service, Nova is used to obtain the information about volumes on VMs and deliver commands to Cinder.

FusionSphere OpenStack Cinder

Cinder provides durable block storage for running instances. In the EVS service, Cinder is used to create virtual volumes on storage devices and attach volumes to VMs.

VM pool

FusionSphere OpenStack provides resource-based and management capabilities for virtual computing and provides management capabilities of resource pools, such as KVM and FusionCompute.

Block storage pool

FusionSphere OpenStack provides the resource-based and management capabilities for virtual storage, and provides management capabilities of block resource pools.

Servers, storage devices, and network devices

This layer provides physical resources required for building a DC, including servers, storage devices, and network devices. This layer also provides the virtual computing, virtual storage, and virtual network resource pools built based on physical resources, as well as physical server resources that can be directly used. This layer provides multiple types of hardware deployment architecture based on different service requirements.

Service Flow

Figure 7-16 shows the service flow through which EVS provides storage space for the ECS.

Figure 7-16 EVS service flow

  1. A VDC administrator or VDC operator applies for resources on the ManageOne operation plane.
  2. The ManageOne operation plane delivers requests to the combined API through the ECS UI.
  3. Combined APIs distribute requests to Cinder.
  4. Cinder creates volumes in the storage pool according to storage resource application policies.
  5. ECSs attach block storage to VMs.
  6. Nova notifies Cinder of the volume attachment.
