Collecting Logs by Running Commands

Collecting Logs by Running Commands

Scenarios

When the system fails to run properly, collect FusionStorage Block logs to facilitate fault locating.

Prerequisites

Conditions

  • You have obtained the management IP addresses of FusionStorage Manager (FSM) nodes as well as the password of user dsware.
  • You have obtained the management IP addresses of the FusionStorage Agent (FSA) nodes.

Procedure

    1. Use PuTTY to log in to the active FSM node.

Ensure that the management IP address and username dsware are used to establish the connection.

If the public and private keys are used to authenticate the login, perform the operations based on Using PuTTY to Log In to a Node in Key Pair Authentication Mode in the FusionStorage Block Storage Service Administrator Guide.

    2. Run the following command to switch to the specified directory:

      cd /opt/dsware/client/bin

    3. Perform either of the following operation based on the scenario:

      • To upload log information to a third-party FTP server, go to 4.
      • To upload log information to the active FSM node, go to 5.

    4. Run the following command and enter the password as prompted to collect log information:

      NOTE:

Since the system has been hardened, you need to enter the username and password for login authentication after running the dswareTool command of FusionStorage Block. The default username is cmdadmin, and its default password is IaaS@PORTAL-CLOUD9!.

The system supports authentication using environment variables so that you do not need to repeatedly enter the username and password for authentication each time you run the dswareTool command. For details, see Authentication Using Environment Variables in the FusionStorage Block Storage Service Software Installation Guide.

sh dswareTool.sh --op infoCollector -ftpIp ftpIp -user ftpUser -port ftpPort -dir uploadDictionary -nodeIp nodeIp1,nodeIp2,... -nodeType nodeType -period beginTime-endTime -items item1,item2,... -nodeUserName nodeUserName

Table 2-3 describes the parameters in the preceding command.
      Table 2-3  Parameters

      Parameter

      Description

      Example Value

      -ftpIp

Specifies the IP address of the third-party server.

      192.168.40.6

      -user

Specifies the username of the FTP service.

      dsware

      -port

Specifies the port number of the FTP service.

      22

      -dir

Specifies the directory for loading log information.

      /log/test

      -nodeIp

Specifies the management IP addresses of the nodes whose logs are to be collected. Multiple IP addresses are separated using commas (,).

      192.168.40.30,192.168.40.31

      -nodeType

Specifies the type of the nodes. The value can be FSM or FSA. Logs of the FSM and FSA nodes must be collected separately.

      FSA

      -period

Specifies the duration for collecting logs.

      201503030202-201503041959

      -items

      Specifies the information collection items.

      For details, see Table 2-5.

      4500,4501

      -nodeUserName

Specifies the username for logging in to the standby FSM node. This parameter is mandatory only when logs of the FSM nodes are to be collected.

      dsware

For example, run the following command:

sh dswareTool.sh --op infoCollector -ftpIp 192.168.40.6 -user dsware -port 22 -dir /log/test -nodeIp 192.168.40.30,192.168.40.31 -nodeType FSA -period 201503030202-201503041959 -items 4500,4501

      The following information is displayed:
      Operation finish successfully. Result Code:0
      nodeIp:192.168.40.30
      nodeResult:0
      itemId-result:4500-0
      itemId-result:4501-0

      nodeIp:192.168.40.31
      nodeResult:0
      itemId-result:4500-0
      itemId-result:4501-0

      No further action is required.

    5. Run the following command and enter the password as prompted to collect log information:

sh dswareTool.sh --op infoCollectorToFsm -nodeIp nodeIp1,nodeIp2,... -nodeType nodeType -period beginTime-endTime -items item1,item2,... -nodeUserName nodeUserName

      • Because space of the partition where the log directory resides is limited, collect logs generated within two days and for a maximum of five nodes at a time. After log collection, copy the collected logs to a local directory and delete the created log directory.
      • Collected logs are stored in the /opt/dsware/tools/pmi/pmiInfo directory. After the collection is complete, copy these log files to other places. Otherwise, the system clears all these logs in the directory before next collection.

Table 2-4 describes the parameters in the preceding command.

      Table 2-4  Parameters

      Parameter

      Description

      Example Value

      192.168.40.30,192.168.40.31

      -nodeType

Specifies the type of the nodes. The value can be FSM or FSA. Logs of the FSM and FSA nodes must be collected separately.

      FSA

      -period

Specifies the duration for collecting logs.

      4500,4501

      -nodeUserName

Specifies the username for logging in to the standby FSM node. This parameter is mandatory only when logs of the FSM nodes are to be collected.

      dsware

For example, run the following command:

sh dswareTool.sh --op infoCollectorToFsm -nodeIp 192.168.40.30,192.168.40.31 -nodeType FSA -period 201503030202-201503041959 -items 4500,4501

      The following information is displayed:
      Operation finish successfully. Result Code:0
      nodeIp:192.168.40.30
      nodeResult:0
      itemId-result:4500-0
