Installing a GPU Card

Installing a GPU Card

Determine the location for installing the GPU card. Figure 5-105 shows the locations of GPU cards.

If a GPU card has been installed in the slot, skip this section.

Procedure

  1. Remove the GP608. For details, see Removing the GP608.
  2. Place the GP608 on the ESD floor.
  3. Remove the cover. For details, see Removing the Cover of the GP608.
  4. Remove the GPU filler module from the slot where the GPU card is to be installed.

    1. Loosen the screw on the GPU filler module using a Phillips screwdriver. See (1) in Figure 5-106.
Figure 5-106 Removing a GPU filler module

    2. Remove the GPU filler module from the slot. See (2) in Figure 5-106.
    3. Place the removed GPU filler module in an ESD bag.

  5. Take a spare GPU card out of its ESD bag.
  6. Obtain GPU card fixing components.

Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the screws from the front and rear fixing components, and remove the front and rear fixing components.
Figure 5-107 Locations of the front and rear fixing components

  7. Install the GPU card bracket.

    NOTE:

GPU cards are provided by third-parties and their card brackets are incompatible with the GP608. The Huawei-developed GPU card brackets must be installed on these cards. Otherwise, the GPU cards cannot be installed.

    • Install the fixing component at the rear of the GPU card.
      1. Remove the original fixing component of the GPU card in the arrow direction. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws from the fixing component of the GPU card. See (1) and (2) in Figure 5-108. Remove the fixing component. See (3) in Figure 5-108. Use the removed screws to install the Huawei-developed GPU card fixing component.
Figure 5-108 Removing the original fixing component from the GPU card
      2. Install the Huawei-developed fixing component at the rear of the GPU card. See (1) in Figure 5-109.
      3. Use a Phillips screwdriver to tighten the three countersunk screws at the front the fixing component and one countersunk tapping screw on the side. See (2) and (3) in Figure 5-109.
        NOTE:

The hole for installing the countersunk tapping screw on the side must be inserted between the PCB board and the protection board.

    • Install the fixing component at the front of the GPU card.
      1. Loosen any three screws from the hot melt nut in the middle of the GPU filler module. Figure 5-110 shows the positions of the screws. Used the removed screws to install the fixing component at the rear of the GPU card.
Figure 5-110 Positions of screws on the filler module
      2. Install the fixing component at the front of the GPU card. See (1) in Figure 5-111.
      3. Use a Phillips screwdriver to tighten the three screws on the fixing component at the front. See (2) in Figure 5-111.
Figure 5-111 Installing the fixing component at the front of the GPU card

  8. Align the GPU card with the slot, and insert the GPU card into the slot. See (1) in Figure 5-112.

Figure 5-112 Installing a GPU card

  9. Tighten the two screws using a Phillips screwdriver to secure the GPU card. See (2) in Figure 5-112.
  10. Connect the GPU card to the PCIe board using a power cable. Figure 5-113 shows the mapping between the GPU cards and the connectors on the PCIe board. Power can be supplied properly only when GPU cards are connected to correct connectors.

  11. Install the cover of the GP608. For details, see Installing the Cover of the GP608.

After a GPU of a different model is installed, you need to install the corresponding GPU driver. For details about how to install the driver, see the NVIDIA GPU Card Driver Installation Guide.
