Removing a DIMM

Procedure

  1. Wear ESD gloves.
  2. Remove cables as required. See Internal Cabling for the RAID Controller Card or Internal Cabling for the SATA Controller Integrated in the Southbridge.
  3. Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the screws fastening the node panel and remove the node panel in the arrow direction. See (1) and (2) in Figure 3-51.
  4. Use the Phillips screwdriver to remove the three screws that secure the liquid-cooled module. See (3) in Figure 3-51.

  5. Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the screws on the heat sink. See (3) in Figure 3-52.

    Remove the heat sink, and place it upside down. See (4) and (5) in Figure 3-52.
    NOTE:

    Use one hand to hold the server node and the other hand to lift the heat sink.

  6. Open the two latches on the DIMM slot simultaneously. See (1) in Figure 3-53.

  7. Take the DIMM from the slot. See (2) in Figure 3-53.

    NOTE:

    When removing a DIMM, do not squeeze the thermal pad of the DIMM to prevent it from being deformed.

  8. Place the removed DIMM in an ESD bag.
