Misoperations during service configuration may make services unavailable. This topic describes the precautions that must be taken during service configuration.

Constraints on Cross-Connection Configuration

Cross-connections of WDM equipment are classified into optical and electrical cross-connections. Optical cross-connections groom optical signals and are irrelevant to the types of carried services. Electrical cross-connections groom electrical signals and are closely related to the types of carried services.

Pay attention to the following points when configuring electrical cross-connections:

  • For a common cross-connect service on a tributary board, its source can function as the source of another cross-connect service but its sink cannot be the sink of another cross-connect service. For an SNCP cross-connect service on a tributary board, neither of the two sources or sinks on the working and protection channels can function as the sources or sinks of other cross-connect services.
  • The transmit end and receive end in the same direction of a cross-connect service must have the same WDM-side channel ID.

    For example, when ODU Timeslot Configuration Mode of an N216 board is set to Assign consecutive, the mapping path of the ODU0 signal received on the backplane side is ODU0 -> ODU1 -> ODU2, and the channel of each optical port on the board is OCh:1-ODU2:1-ODU1:(1-4)-ODU0:(1-2). If the optical port and channel of the N216 board at the transmit end are 1(IN1/OUT1)-OCh:1-ODU2:1-ODU1:1-ODU0:1, the channel used by the N216 board at the receive end must be OCh:1-ODU2:1-ODU1:1-ODU0:1 of any optical port among the 16 available optical ports of the N216 board at the receive end.
