Operation Tasks of Configuring a CES Service

This topic describes the main operation tasks involved in configuring a CES service.

Configuring a CES Service Port

The OTN equipment can access CES services by using channelized STM-1 boards and channelized STM-4 boards, and provides flexible service access modes.

Prerequisites

You must be an NM user with "NE operator" authority or higher.

Context

The channelized STM-1 or STM-4 board is configured to transmit CES services, including VC4/VC12 CES emulation services.

When the interface is used to carry the CES service, you need to set the frame format, to ensure that the frame format is the same as the service encapsulation format.

NOTE:
The E1 frame mode of the PDH/SDH port packets of the PTN equipment support 30 and 31 timeslots.
  • 30 timeslots: The 1-15 and 17-31 timeslots in the E1 frame format are used to transmit service data. Timeslot 16 is used to transmit signaling.
  • 31 timeslots: The 1-31 timeslots in the E1 frame format are used to transmit service data.

When the Frame Mode of the packets on the opposite interface is set to 30, the Frame Mode of the packets on the local interface must be set to 30 to ensure that signaling in timeslot 16 of the user packet is transmitted as service data.

Modifying related parameters of created services may cause service interruption. Exercise caution when you perform this operation.

Port configuration procedure for a CES service(VC4)

  1. In the NE Explorer, select a channelized STM-1 or STM-4 board, and set Multiplex Type to VC4 and Link Protocol to TDM Encapsulation.
    NOTE:
    You are not advised to configure Multiplex Type for more than three ports at a time. Otherwise, a timeout error may occur after you click Apply.
    Operation Example:

Port configuration procedure for a CES service(VC12)

  1. In the NE Explorer, select a channelized STM-1 or STM-4 board and set Multiplex Type to VC12.

    Operation Example:

  2. On the Path Configuration tab, set port parameters such as VC12 Frame Format and Frame Mode.

    NOTE:

    When the emulation mode of a CES service is CESoPSN, E1 interface is recommended that you set the frame format at the interface to CRC-4 multiframe. When the emulation mode of a CES service is SAToP, the frame format at the interface should be set to non-framing.

  3. Select an object. In the Channel-sets area, click Create. In the Channel-sets [Create] window that is displayed, set Timeslot ID and Timeslot-list as planned.

Configuring Channel Overhead (VC-4/VC-12 Level)

For the channelized STM-1/STM-4 board, regenerator section overhead, VC-4 channel overhead, and VC-12 channel overhead can be configured.

Prerequisites

You must be an NM user with "NE operator" authority or higher.

Configuring Regenerator Section Overhead

  1. In the NE Explorer, set Regenerator Section Overhead for the channelized STM-1 or STM-4 board.

    Operation Example:

Configuring VC4 Path Overhead

  1. In the NE Explorer, set J1 and C2 overhead bytes of VC4 Path Overhead for the channelized STM-1 or STM-4 board.
    • Operation Example: On the Trace Byte J1 tab, set the J1 overhead byte.

    • Operation Example: On the Signal Flag C2 tab, set the C2 overhead byte.

    • Operation Example: On the Overhead Termination tab, set the transparent transmission mode.

Configuring VC12 Path Overhead

  1. In the NE Explorer, set J2 and V5 overhead bytes of VC12 Path Overhead for the channelized STM-1 or STM-4 board.
    NOTE:
    When Channel Level displayed after you select Multiplex Type from the navigation tree is set to VC12, VC-12 channel overhead can be set.
    • Operation Example: On the Trace Byte J2 tab, set the J2 overhead byte.

    • Operation Example: On the Signal Flag V5 tab, set the V5 overhead byte.

Creating a UNI-UNI CES Service on a Per-NE Basis

This topic describes how to configure a UNI-UNI CES service on a Per-NE basis.

Prerequisites

You must be an NM user with "NE operator" authority or higher.

  1. In the NE Explorer, create a UNI-UNI CES service. For details about the parameters, see Table 6.

    Operation Example:

    NOTE:

    Before selecting a serial port for creating a CES(VC12 level) service, set Link Protocol of the serial port to TDM Encapsulation in the Port dialog box.

Creating a UNI-NNI CES Service on a Per-NE Basis

If you create a CES service on a per-NE basis, you need to create relevant attributes of the service separately on the source and sink nodes of the service.

Context

The channelized STM-1 or STM-4 board is configured to transmit CES services, including VC4/VC12 CES emulation services.

  2. Refer to 1 to navigate to the NE Explorer of the peer NE and then configure the reverse services.
