Licensing Requirements and Limitations for WLAN-AC

Licensing Requirements and Limitations for WLAN-AC

Involved Network Elements

  • APs mentioned in this document are Huawei AP products. You are advised to use Huawei APs to connect to the AC.
  • You can run the display ap-type command to check the default AP types supported by the device.
AAA Server
  • Huawei Agile Controller or third-party AAA server, which implements authentication, accounting, and authorization on users.
Portal Server
  • Huawei Agile Controller or third-party Portal server, which receives authentication requests from Portal clients. It provides free Portal services and a web authentication GUI, and exchanges authentication information of authentication clients with the access device. This NE is required only when Portal authentication is used.

Licensing Requirements

For the devices that support the WLAN AC feature, the licenses for the WLAN AC feature are as follows:
  • When serving as an AC, the AR120 series allow for access of a maximum of sixteen APs without licenses.

  • When no AC license is loaded, the AR150&160&200&AR1200&AR2200&AR3200&AR3600 series serving as ACs can connect to a maximum of four APs. To connect more APs to an AC, apply for and purchase a license from the agent according to the device model:
    • AR150&160&200 series: AR150&160&200 AC Express License

    • AR1200 series: AR1200 AC Express License

    • AR2200 series: AR2200 AC Express License

    • AR3200 series: AR3200 AC Express License

    • AR3600 series: AR3600 AC Express License

Feature Limitations

  • The AR109, AR109W, and AR109GW-L do not support the WLAN AC function.

  • If WIDS is configured on an AP radio, the radio cannot be used to set up a WDS bridge.

  • Currently, the 802.11ax protocol is not supported by AR routers serving as WLAN ACs.
