Configuring Interface Backup in Load Balancing Mode

Pre-configuration Tasks

When the bandwidth on the primary interface is insufficient, the backup interface with the highest priority is selected to load balance services with the primary interface. This improves reliability of data transmission.

Before configuring interface backup in load balancing mode, configure routing protocols on the primary link and backup link to ensure connectivity at the network layer.

NOTE:
Configuring equal-cost routes to the destination network segments on the primary and backup interfaces when dynamic routing protocols are used.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run interface interface-type interface-number

    The view of the primary interface is displayed.

  3. Run standby interface interface-type interface-number [ priority ]

    A backup interface is configured and the priority is set.

    NOTE:
    • A greater priority value of a backup interface indicates a higher priority of the backup interface.

    • If backup interfaces have the same priority, the system starts or shuts down a backup interface based on the sequence in which backup interfaces were configured. The backup interface that was configured first is started first and the backup interface that was configured last is shut down first.

  4. Run standby threshold enable-threshold disable-threshold

    The upper and lower thresholds are set.

    By default, the system does not support the load balancing function. That is, the upper and lower thresholds are not set.

  5. (Optional) Run standby bandwidth size

    The maximum bandwidth of the primary interface is set.

    By default, the primary interface uses the actual physical bandwidth provided by the system as the maximum bandwidth.

  6. (Optional) Run standby timer flow-check time

    The interval for detecting traffic on the primary interface is set.

    By default, the interval is 10s.

Checking the Configuration

After the configuration, run the display standby state command to check the primary and backup interfaces and the load balancing status.
