Configuring Interface Backup in Active/Standby Mode

Configuring Interface Backup in Active/Standby Mode

Pre-Configuration Tasks

Before configuring interface backup in active/standby mode, configure routing protocols on the primary link and backup link to ensure connectivity at the network layer.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run interface interface-type interface-number

The primary interface view is displayed.

  3. Run standby interface interface-type interface-number [ priority ]

A backup interface is specified and the priority of the backup interface is set. To configure multiple backup interfaces for a primary interface, run the standby interface command multiple times.

  4. (Optional) Run standby timer delay enable-delay disable-delay

The switchover delay is set. When the values of enable-delay and disable-delay are 0, services are switched immediately. It is recommended that the switchover delay should not be 0 because immediate switching may cause link flapping.

    NOTE:

To prevent frequent switchovers between the primary interface and the backup interface because of the unstable interface status, run the standby timer delay command to set the delay. After the primary interface changes from Up to Down, the system does not switch services to the backup interface immediately:

    • If the primary interface is still Down after the delay, services are switched to the backup interface.

    • If the primary interface is restored during the delay, services are not switched.

Checking the Configuration

After the configuration is complete, please run the display standby state command to check the status of the primary and backup interfaces.
