Configuring Traffic Suppression on an Interface

Configuring Traffic Suppression on an Interface

Context

Excess broadcast, multicast, or unknown unicast packets will cause broadcast storms. You can configure traffic suppression for a specified type of packet on an interface to limit the rate of these packets.

Pre-configuration Tasks

Before configuring traffic suppression on an interface, configure link layer protocol parameters for interfaces to ensure that the link layer protocol status on the interfaces is Up.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run interface interface-type interface-number

    The interface view is displayed.

  3. Run { broadcast-suppression | multicast-suppression | unicast-suppression } { cir cir-value | packets packets-per-second }

    Traffic suppression is configured.

    NOTE:

    On an AR1220E, AR1220EV, or AR1220EVW, the { flood-suppression | broadcast-suppression } cir cir-value command can only be run in the interface view to configure traffic suppression.

    On an AR161EW, AR161EW-M1, AR169EW, or AR169EGW-L, the { broadcast-suppression | multicast-suppression | unicast-suppression } cir cir-value can only be run in the system view to configure traffic suppression.

    Different types of interfaces support different modes for traffic suppression:
    • The CIR value for traffic suppression can be set on the LAN-side GE interfaces and Ethernet interfaces of the main control board.
    • The rate limit in pps can be set on the LAN-side GE interfaces and Ethernet interfaces of the LPU.

    Different models support different types of interfaces, so the supported traffic suppression modes are different, as listed in Table 10-2.
