Configuring Traffic-based Accounting

Configuring Traffic-based Accounting

Context

Traffic-based accounting means that the authentication device collects traffic statistics during a user's online period, and sends statistics result to the accounting server. The accounting server then performs accounting for the user based on traffic statistics result. The accounting server can perform accounting based on traffic statistics result for the users going online through 802.1X, MAC address, Portal, or PPPoE authentication.

After the traffic identification rule and tariff level are configured, the device marks tariff levels on traffic from different destination addresses. Then the traffic policing and statistics functions are configured in QoS profiles to control the bandwidth and collect traffic statistics. A tariff level can identify the traffic destination address. If the specified tariff level is bound to a QoS profile, the device can control the bandwidth for the traffic destined for the specified destination address and collect the traffic statistics. If the accounting function is enabled, the device sends the traffic statistics to the accounting server for accounting.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run qos-profile profile-name

A QoS profile is created and the QoS profile view is displayed.

By default, no QoS profile is configured.

  3. (Optional) Run car cir cir-value [ pir pir-value ] [ cbs cbs-value pbs pbs-value ] { inbound | outbound }

Traffic policing is configured in the QoS profile.

By default, traffic policing is not configured in a QoS profile.

This step is mandatory if the bandwidth for the traffic needs to be limited.

  4. Run statistics enable

Traffic statistics collection is enabled in the QoS profile.

By default, traffic statistics collection is disabled in a QoS profile.

  5. Run quit

    Return to the system view.

  6. Run aaa

    The AAA view is displayed.

  7. Run domain domain-name

    The domain view is displayed.

The device has two default domains: default and default_admin. The default domain is used by common access users and the default_admin domain is used by administrators.

  8. Run tariff-level tariff-level { qos-profile profile-name | accounting-on } *

The QoS profile and accounting function are configured for the tariff level.

By default, the QoS profile and accounting function are not configured for the tariff level.
