Creating ASM Disk Groups

Creating ASM Disk Groups

Create ASM disk groups. The ASM disk groups provide storage space for the database.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the GUI as user grid (or run su - grid to switch to user grid), and run the asmca command.

  2. In the ASMCA configuration window, click the Disk Groups tab, and click Create. The Create Disk Group window is displayed.

  3. Set Disk Group Name to DATA, set Redundancy to External (None), select DATADISK001, DATADISK002, DATADISK003, and DATADISK004 in the disk list, click Show Advanced Options, and set Allocation Unit Size (MB). If the service model is OLAP, the recommended value is 4 MB. If the service model is OLTP, the recommended value is 1 MB. After the parameters are set, click OK.

  4. In the displayed dialog box, click OK. The DATA disk group is created.

  5. Create another disk group. Set Disk Group Name to FRA, set Redundancy to External (None), select FRADISK01 in the disk list, click Show Advanced Options, and set Allocation Unit Size (MB). If the service model is OLAP, the recommended value is 4 MB. If the service model is OLTP, the recommended value is 1 MB. After the parameters are set, click OK.

  6. After the DATA and FRA disk groups are created, click Exit to exit the ASMCA GUI.

  7. The disk group creation is complete. The newly created disk groups are mounted to the two RAC nodes together with the disk group created earlier.
