Replacing the Management Module

Replacing the Management Module

This section describes how to replace a management module.

A management module is faulty.

Impact on the System

After the management module is removed, the health status indicator will blink red and the fans will run at full speed, which is normal.

  1. Matters for Attention

Install a new management module within 2 minutes after the management module is removed.

  2. Spare parts

Obtain the spare management module and packing materials, for example, an ESD bag. Place them less than 0.5 m (1.64 ft) away from the cabinet.

  3. Data

Cabinet number, chassis number, and slot number of the management module to be replaced.

Locate the management module to be replaced based on the preceding information, and label its panel for identification.

Back up the service data on the management module to be replaced.

  4. Tools

ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves

  1. Wear an ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves.
  2. Loosen the captive screws on the management module. See (1) in Figure 5-5.
  3. Hold the handle and pull the management module gently out of the chassis. See (2) in Figure 5-5.

Figure 5-5 Removing a management module

  4. Place the removed management module into an ESD bag.
  5. Take a spare management module out of an ESD bag.
  6. Insert the management module horizontally into the slot until the management module snaps into the chassis. See (1) in Figure 5-6.
  7. Tighten the captive screws on the management module. See (2) in Figure 5-6.

  8. Power on the chassis. The management module is operating properly if its status indicator is steady green.
