redundancy

A mechanism that allows a backup device to automatically take over services from a faulty device to ensure uninterrupted running of the system.

S

SEL

A non-volatile area and interfaces used to store system events for later fault diagnosis and system recovery.

U

U

A unit defined in International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 60297-1 to measure the height of a cabinet or chassis. 1U = 44.45 mm = 1.75 in.

Y

Ethernet

A baseband local area network (LAN) architecture developed by Xerox Corporation by partnering with Intel and DEC. Ethernet uses the Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Detection (CSMA/CD) access method and allows data transfer over various cables. The Ethernet specification is the basis for the IEEE 802.3 standard.
