Installing the Mainboard

Procedure

  1. Place the server node on the ESD workstation.
  2. Take the spare part out of its ESD bag.
  3. Determine the position of the mainboard.
  1. Install the mainboard.

    1. Tilting the mainboard 10 to 15° in the direction shown in the following figure, place it into the lining board.

    2. Aligning the notches on the mainboard with the positioning pins, slide the mainboard in the direction shown in the following figure as far as it will go.

    3. Tighten the five M3x6 screw assemblies. See (1) in Figure 4-55.
    4. Install the guide sleeve and tighten the M3x6 screw assembly. See (2) in Figure 4-55.

    1. Tighten the two 9 mm studs. See (1) in Figure 4-56.
    2. Tighten the 6 mm stud shown by the red circle in Figure 4-56.

  2. Install the assembly of the horizontal and vertical adapter boards.

    1. Connect the assembly of the horizontal and vertical adapter boards to the connector on the mainboard using a tool. See (1) in Figure 4-57.
    2. Tighten the three M3x6 screw assemblies. See (2) in Figure 4-57.
    3. Tighten the two 15 mm studs shown by the red circles in Figure 4-57.
    4. Tighten the 12 mm stud shown by the blue circle in Figure 4-57.

  3. Check the front panel configuration of the server node.

    • If the server is configured with two 2.5-inch drives, go to 7.
    • If the server is configured with two HHHL PCIe cards, go to 8.

  4. Install the front drives, front-drive backplane, and front-drive cage.

    For details, see Installing a Front SAS/SATA Drive, Installing the Front-Drive Backplane, and Installing the Front Drive Cage.

    Go to 9.

  5. Install PCIe and riser cards.

    For details, see Installing the Riser Card and Installing a PCIe Card.

  6. Install processors.

    For details, see Installing a Processor.

  7. Install memory modules.

    For details, see Installing a Memory Module.

  8. Install M.2 SSDs.

    For details, see Installing an M.2 SSD.

  9. Install the TPM.

    For details, see Installing the TPM.

  10. Install the supercapacitor if it is configured.

    For details, see Installing the Supercapacitor.

  11. Install the screw-in RAID controller card.

    For details, see Installing the Screw-in RAID Controller Card.

  12. Install the cable carrier.

    For details, see Installing the Cable Carrier .

  13. Connect all the cables to the mainboard.

    For details, see Internal Cabling.

  14. Install the drive drawer.

    For details, see Installing the Drive Drawer.

  15. Install the server node.

    For details, see Installing an XH628 V5.

  16. Power on the server node.

    For details, see Power-On Procedure.

  17. Check the indicator status. If the health status indicator is steady green, the server node is running properly.

    For details, see Indicators and Buttons.

  18. To burn the original SN into the new mainboard after replacement, contact Huawei engineers.

    If the original device SN is not burnt in the new mainboard, the iBMC and OS cannot obtain the device SN. This may affect the running of some services or the monitoring and management on the device.

  19. After the mainboard is replaced, the LOM is replaced and the MAC address of the LOM is changed. If the LOM is used for transferring data, you need to configure the LOM data.
  20. After the mainboard is replaced, the iBMC and BIOS settings are restored to the default settings of the new mainboard. Configure the iBMC and BIOS based on service requirements.

    NOTE:
    • If you have iBMC and BIOS configuration files imported before the replacement of the mainboard, you can import the configuration files after the replacement. However, the exported configuration files do not contain password information. You need to manually configure the password for the iBMC user. For details, see iBMC WebUI > Configuration > Import/Export in FusionServer Pro X6800 Server iBMC (V300 to V369) User Guide.
    • The iBMC and BIOS configuration files exported from the iBMC contain the configuration list. For details, see "Configuration File Description" in FusionServer Pro X6800 Server iBMC (V300 to V369) User Guide.
    • The iBMC supports import and export of configuration files from version 2.32.
    • If the iBMC/BIOS configuration files are not imported before you replace the mainboard, manually configure the iBMC and BIOS data after the replacement.

  21. Upgrade the mainboard firmware (iBMC, BIOS, and CPLD) to the latest version.
