Installing a Drive in the Drive Drawer

Installing a Drive in the Drive Drawer

The drive drawer can hold twelve 2.5- or 3.5-inch SAS/SATA drives. The methods for installing the drives are the same.

  • The SATA or SAS drives support hot swap. After a faulty drive is disconnected from its backplane, wait 30 seconds before removing it. The alarm will not be cleared immediately after a new drive is installed. It will be cleared after the RAID array rebuild is complete. Do not frequently hot-swap a drive to prevent new alarms.
  • To prevent damage caused by insufficient heat dissipation and high temperature, install components or filler panels.

  1. Take the spare part out of its ESD bag.
  2. Determine the position and slot of the drive.

For details, see Drive Configurations and Drive Numbering.

  3. Remove the drive filler.

Perform this operation only when a drive filler is installed.

  4. Install the drive in the drawer.

    1. Open the drive drawer.

Do not exert excessive force on the drive drawer when removing or installing it. Otherwise, the drives may be damaged.

    2. Holding the drive handle, install the drive into the slot until the handle is flush with the upper edge of the drive drawer. See (1) in Figure 4-5.
    3. Holding the handle of the drive drawer, slowly push the drive drawer into the server node until it clicks into place. See (2) in Figure 4-5.

  5. Check the running status of the drive by observing its indicators.

For details, see Drive Drawer Indicators.

  6. Restore the drive data.

Perform this operation only after you replace a drive.

For details, see Troubleshooting > Hard Drive Fault in Huawei V5 Server RAID Controller Card User Guide.
