Link Aggregation in Manual Mode

Link Aggregation in Manual Mode

Link aggregation can work in manual or Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) mode. The main difference between the two modes is whether LACP is used.

In manual mode, you must manually create an Eth-Trunk and add member interfaces to the Eth-Trunk. In this mode, LACP is not required. The manual mode is suitable in scenarios where the link between two directly connected devices requires a high bandwidth but the devices do not support the LACP protocol. In addition to increasing bandwidth, this mode enhances reliability and implements load balancing.

As shown in Figure 3-2, an Eth-Trunk is created between DeviceA and DeviceB. In manual mode, three active links participate in data forwarding and load balance traffic. When one link becomes faulty, the remaining two links load balance traffic.
