Configuring an AS

Configuring an AS

Context

An AS in an SVF system can be a standalone switch or a stack. If an AS is a stack, pre-configure the stack function on the AS and then connect the AS to the SVF system. For stack configuration details, see Stack Configuration in the Configuration Guide - Device Management of fixed switches.

When the parent is directly connected to an AS, the fabric port, management VLAN, and client mode of the AS are auto-negotiated and do not need to be manually configured. Additionally, if the following conditions are met, the AS can automatically go online after it is connected to the parent.

Table 4-10  Conditions for an AS going online

No.

Condition

Description

1

The AS is unconfigured (without any startup configuration file and input on the console port).

If one of the following conditions is met, the AS has gone online and input is allowed on its console port:
  • The prompt information "The switch has entered the uni-mng AS mode, and console port input is allowed." is displayed on the console port.
  • The State field in the display uni-mng interface fabric-port command output on the parent displays Connected.

2

If the AS is a stack, it contains a maximum of five member switches of which the stack ID ranges from 0 to 4.

If the number of member switches exceeds 5 or the stack ID is larger than 4, the AS cannot go online to connect to the SVF system.

3

Each AS has a unique management MAC address.

By default, an AS uses its system MAC address as the management MAC address to connect to an SVF system. When the management MAC address of an AS conflicts with that of another AS, you can run the as access manage-mac mac-address command to change the management MAC address so as to prevent MAC address conflicts.

When an AS is a stack of multiple devices:
  • Before connecting an AS with the pre-configured name and MAC address to an SVF system, you are advised to set up a stack for the AS and then configure the pre-configured MAC address as the management MAC address.

When pre-configuring the name and MAC address of an AS, configure this MAC address as the MAC address of the master switch in the stack. In this situation, the AS management MAC address is the same as the pre-configured one by default, and no management MAC address needs to be configured.

  • If the AS name and MAC address are configured after the AS connects to an SVF system, the management MAC address does not need to be configured.

4

If the AS needs to use downlink service ports as member ports of the connected uplink fabric port, you need to run the uni-mng up-direction fabric-port member interface interface-type interface-number [ to interface-number ] command to specify these downlink service ports as member ports of the connected uplink fabric port. Downlink service ports include the ports that connect level-1 ASs to the parent and that connect level-2 ASs to level-1 ASs.

5

If the AS functioning as the VCMP client has synchronized VLANs before going online, you must run the reset vcmp command to clear VCMP information and restart the AS.

-

6

If the AS is an S5730HI switch, you must run the as-mode disable command first to change the working mode of the switch to AS mode. By default, the switch works in parent mode.
