Scenario

Description

Method and Task

APs and ACs are located on a Layer 3 network, and an AP can discover two ACs through DHCP Option 43.

An AP can discover a total of two ACs in dynamic or static mode. In this scenario, use the new method or traditional method 1 for the configuration.
  • Using the new configuration method, you can directly specify the active and standby ACs. The configuration logic is clear and simple. This method is recommended in new N+1 backup configuration scenarios.

  • Using traditional method 1, you can determine the active and standby ACs based on the priority. The configuration logic is complex. This method is applicable to N+1 backup configuration involving earlier versions but not recommended in N+1 backup configuration scenarios.

In this case, the AP needs to select the active and standby ACs. You only need to configure the priority for the active AC and standby ACs and set the priority of the active AC higher than that of the standby AC.

New method

  1. Configuring Option 43 on the DHCP Server

  2. Configuring AC Roles (New Method)

  3. Configuring Revertive Switchover

  4. (Optional) Configuring CAPWAP Heartbeat Detection

  5. (Optional) Configuring the Active/Standby Link Switchover Mode

  6. Enabling N+1 Backup

Traditional method 1

  1. Configuring Option 43 on the DHCP Server

  2. Configuring AC Roles (Traditional Method 1)

  3. Configuring Revertive Switchover

  4. (Optional) Configuring CAPWAP Heartbeat Detection

  5. (Optional) Configuring the Active/Standby Link Switchover Mode

  6. Enabling N+1 Backup

APs and ACs are located on a Layer 2 network, and an AP can discover more than two ACs.

An AP can discover more than two ACs in dynamic or static mode. In this scenario, use the new method or traditional method 2 for the configuration.
  • Using the new configuration method, you can directly specify the active and standby ACs. The configuration logic is clear and simple. This method is recommended in new N+1 backup configuration scenarios.

  • Using traditional method 2, you can determine the active and standby ACs based on the priority. The configuration logic is complex. This method is applicable to N+1 backup configuration involving earlier versions but not recommended in N+1 backup configuration scenarios.

In this case, the AP needs to select the active and standby ACs. You need to configure both the global and individual priorities on all active ACs so that all APs can associate with the predefined active or standby AC.

Ensure that the ACs' priorities meet the following requirements: active AC's individual priority > standby AC's global priority > active AC's global priority.

New method

  1. Configuring AC Roles (New Method)

  2. Configuring Revertive Switchover

  3. (Optional) Configuring CAPWAP Heartbeat Detection

  4. (Optional) Configuring the Active/Standby Link Switchover Mode

  5. Enabling N+1 Backup

Traditional method 2

  1. Configuring AC Roles (Traditional Method 2)

  2. Configuring Revertive Switchover

  3. (Optional) Configuring CAPWAP Heartbeat Detection

  4. (Optional) Configuring the Active/Standby Link Switchover Mode

  5. Enabling N+1 Backup
