Configuring an Execution Task

Prerequisites

The storage system has the license of SmartTier for file systems.

Procedure

1. Log in to DeviceManager.
2. Choose Provisioning > File System.
3. Select the file system for which you want to configure SmartTier, and choose More > Configure SmartTier.

   The Configure SmartTier dialog box is displayed.

4. In SSD Capacity Upper Limit of User Data, set the upper limit of the capacity.
5. Configure an execution task for file system SmartTier.
   1. Select Enable the SmartTier task.
   2. Optional: Enable the function of background data deduplication or compression.
      • This function is supported in V500R007C50 and later versions. Before using this function, ensure that the storage device has applied for and imported the SmartDedupe and SmartCompression license files.
      • This function can be enabled only when the SmartTier task is enabled.
      1. Optional: Select Enable background deduplication. This function saves the storage space.
      2. Optional: Select Enable background data compression. This function saves the storage space.
   3. Select a schedule type.
      The schedule types include Automatically, Weekly, Frequency, and Immediately. Each file system uses one schedule type. Those types can be switched between each other. Only the Automatically type does not require file policies and the storage system intelligently relocates data based on the specified algorithm. The latter three are customized schedule types that require file policies. When you switch a customized schedule type to the Automatically type, existing file policies will be deleted.

      • Automatically

        For file systems configured with WORM in enterprise compliance mode, their SmartTier tasks do not support the Automatically schedule type because their file access time cannot be updated.

        1. Optional: Select Forcibly relocate to HDDs.
        2. Set the minimum physical size of files to be relocated. All files whose sizes are greater than or equal to this size will first be relocated to HDDs and never be relocated back to SSDs.
      • Weekly
        1. Select at least one day to execute tasks every week.
        2. Set Start Time and Duration.

           The start time ranges from 00:00 to 23: 59. The default value is 22: 00. The duration ranges from 0 hours 30 minutes to 24 hours 0 minutes. The default value is 8 hours 0 minutes.

      • Frequency
        1. Set Execution Period.

           The execution period ranges from 1 to 30 days and the default value is 1 day.

        2. Set Start Time.

           The start time ranges from 00:00 to 23: 59. The default value is 22: 00.

        3. Set Duration.
           • Select Custom and specify a value.

             The duration ranges from 0 hours 30 minutes to 24 hours 0 minutes. The default value is 8 hours 0 minutes.

           • Select Until relocation completes.
      • Immediately
        • Select Custom and specify a value.

          The duration ranges from 0 hours 30 minutes to 168 hours 0 minutes. The default value is 8 hours 0 minutes.

        • Select Until relocation completes.

6. Click OK.
