Typical IGMP Application

IGMP runs between member hosts and directly connected multicast routers to manage and maintain multicast group membership. To forward multicast data from multicast sources to receivers, multicast routers must run Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) to set up forwarding paths. Figure 2-15 illustrates a typical IGMP network topology.
