(Optional) Configuring Report Message Suppression

(Optional) Configuring Report Message Suppression

Context

An MLD router periodically sends Query and Response packets to maintain group memberships. When group members join the same multicast group, they send duplicate Report messages to the MLD router. To conserve bandwidth, you can configure Report message suppression on the switch. With this function enabled, the switch forwards a Report message to a router port only when the first member joins a multicast group.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run vlan vlan-id

    The VLAN view is displayed.

  3. Run mld snooping report-suppress

    Report message suppression is enabled.

By default, Report message suppression is disabled enabled.

    NOTE:

When configuring Report message suppression, pay attention to the following points:

    • After this function is configured in a VLAN, IPv6 Layer 3 multicast functions such as MLD and IPv6 PIM cannot be enabled on the corresponding VLANIF interface.
    • The MLD snooping proxy and Report message suppression functions cannot be configured in the same VLAN.

  4. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.
