Binding User VLANs to a Multicast VLAN

Context

Multicast VLAN replication is implemented based on the multicast VLAN, which aggregates multicast flows from the network side. It allows the device to copy and deliver multicast packets in user VLANs. When you configure multicast VLAN replication based on user VLANs, you must enable Layer 2 multicast snooping in the multicast VLAN.

If two devices connect to the same user VLAN and both have the multicast VLAN configured, hosts in the user VLAN will receive two copies of a multicast flow. To avoid this problem, enable querier election for user VLANs in the multicast VLAN view on both the devices. Only the device that wins the querier election can generate Layer 2 multicast forwarding entries according to received Report messages.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run igmp snooping enable

    IGMP snooping is enabled globally.

  3. Run vlan vlan-id

    A VLAN is created, and the VLAN view is displayed.

  4. Run igmp snooping enable

    IGMP snooping is enabled in the VLAN.

  5. Run multicast vlan enable

    Multicast VLAN is enabled and the current VLAN is configured as a multicast VLAN.

  6. Run multicast vlan user-vlan { vlan-id1 [ to vlan-id2 ] } &<1-10>

    The binding between a multicast VLAN and user VLANs is configured and user VLANs are bound to a multicast VLAN.

    NOTE:

    When you configure the binding between a multicast VLAN and user VLANs, a user VLAN can be bound to only one multicast VLAN.

  7. (Optional) Run multicast vlan igmp-querier-election user-vlan { vlan-id1 [ to vlan-id2 ] } &<1-10>

    The querier election is enabled for the user VLANs.

    By default, the querier election is disabled.

    NOTE:

    Before enabling querier election, ensure that a source IP address has been configured on each switch for the Query messages sent by the device using the igmp snooping send-query source-address command.

  8. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.
