DHCPSNP/4/DROPDHCPPACKET:DHCP [PacketType] packet received from interface [IfName] in VLAN [VlanId] was discarded because DHCP snooping binding tables on the interface reached the maximum number of users.


The number of table entries bound to an interface exceeded a predefined threshold, and DHCP packets were discarded on the interface.

Possible Causes

The number of users on a VLAN or interface exceeded the threshold, or an attacker was maliciously requesting for IP addresses on the live network.


  • In the VLAN or interface view, run the display this command to view the allowable maximum number of users.
  • Redetermine whether to increase the allowable maximum number of valid users on the specified interface or in the specified VLAN.

    • If yes, go to step 3.
    • If no, go to step 4.

  • Run the dhcp snooping max-user-number max-user-number [ interface interface-type interface-number ] command in the VLAN view or the dhcp snooping max-user-number max-user-number command in the interface view to reconfigure the allowable maximum number of valid users. Check whether a log is recorded.

    • If yes, go to step 4.
    • If no, no further action is required.

  • Collect trap, log, and configuration information, and contact technical support personnel.
