Configuring Static BFD with Automatically Negotiated Discriminators

Configuring Static BFD with Automatically Negotiated Discriminators

Pre-configuration Tasks

To enable a local device to communicate with a remote device that uses dynamic BFD and detect static routes, create a BFD session with automatically negotiated discriminators. This function applies to networks that use static routes to implement Layer 3 connectivity.

Before configuring a BFD session with automatically negotiated discriminators, complete the following task:

  • Configure an IP address for the Layer 3 interface.

Configuration Process

Figure 2-18 Configuring static BFD with automatically negotiated discriminators

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run bfd

BFD is enabled globally and the BFD view is displayed.

By default, BFD is disabled globally.

  3. Run quit

    Return to the system view.

  4. Depending on whether BFD detects an IPv4 or IPv6 link, perform either of the following operations:

    • Run bfd session-name bind peer-ip ip-address [ vpn-instance vpn-name ] [ interface interface-type interface-number ] [ select-board slot-id1 [ slot-id2 ] ] source-ip ip-address auto

A static BFD session for IPv4 with automatically negotiated discriminators is set up.

By default, BFD binding is not created.

      NOTE:
      • The source address must be configured.
      • The IP address must be an explicit IPv4 address but not a multicast one.
    • Run bfd session-name bind peer-ipv6 ipv6-address [ vpn-instance vpn-name ] [ interface interface-type interface-number ] source-ipv6 ipv6-address auto

A static BFD session for IPv6 with automatically negotiated discriminators is set up.

By default, BFD binding is not created.

      NOTE:
      • The source address must be configured.
      • The IP address must be an explicit IPv6 address but not a multicast one.

  5. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.
