POE/4/UNITPOWEROVERTHRESHOLD: OID [oid] Slot [ULONG1] is overdrawing power. It is consuming [ULONG2] milliwatts while maximum configured power is [ULONG3] milliwatts.

The power required by a PD on a specified slot increases; therefore, the slot power supply is insufficient.

Name Meaning

Indicates the MIB object ID of the alarm.

[ULONG1] Indicates the slot ID of a PoE-capable card.
[ULONG2] Indicates the current power of the PD.
[ULONG3] Indicates the maximum power configured.

Impact on the System

The PD with a lower priority will be powered off if the slot power supply is insufficient.

Possible Causes

Cause 1:

The power required by the PD in a specified slot increases.

Cause 2:

The maximum power of the PoE-capable card in the slot is adjusted to a smaller value.


  1. Run the display poe information slot slot-id command to check the maximum power configured for the specified slot.
  2. Run the display poe power slot slot-id command to check the current power required by the PD connected to each interface on the specified slot.
  3. Perform the following steps as required:

    • If the maximum PoE power configured for the specified slot is smaller than the total power required by the PDs, run the poe slot slot-id max-power max-power command to increase the PoE power. Ensure that the PoE power is sufficient for all the PDs connected to the PoE-capable card.

    • If the maximum PoE power is smaller than the total power required by the PDs but cannot be increased, run the poe priority { critical | high | low } command to set power supply priorities for PDs. Then low-priority PDs are powered off and power supply of high-priority PDs is ensured.
