VLAN ID Transparent Transmission

Packet VLAN IDs need to be transmitted between multiple bridged LANs so that devices in different VLANs can be isolated and those in the same VLAN can communicate with each other. VLAN ID transparent transmission can prevent VLAN IDs from being dropped during transmission.

If two trunk interfaces are connected over Ethernet, configuring VLAN ID transparent transmission prevents the transmission devices on the Ethernet from removing VLAN IDs of the packets. The two trunk interfaces can be considered as directly connected. For example, in Figure 14-8 VLAN ID transparent transmission is enabled on the interfaces of Router A and Router B, allowing PC1 and PC2 to communicate with each other.
