Application Scenarios for Voice VLANs

This section describes the applicable scenario of the voice VLAN.

In Figure 6-2, PCs and IP phones connect to the Internet through switching device. Because the voice service is sensitive to the delay and jitter, the priority of voice data flows needs to be increased so that they can be preferentially forwarded when congestion occurs. The router adds the voice VLAN tag and assigns a higher priority to the VoIP traffic, so the VoIP traffic can be transmitted preferentially and voice quality is ensured.

NOTE:

The device cannot process untagged packets.
