Routing Auto VPN Traffic Through a Hub Device

Service Description

When a carrier provides services over a network with a Hub device deployed, traffic is expected to pass through the Hub device.

Networking Description

On the network shown in Figure 1-7, to transmit traffic through the Hub device, you need to change the Color extcommunity attribute of BGP routes on PE1 and PE2 to the Color extcommunity attribute of the Hub device on the RR. Specifically, the following configurations need to be performed on the RR and Hub device:

  • Enable the RR to modify the path attribute of BGP routes based on an export route-policy.
  • Configure a route-policy named evpn_export_policy.
  • Specify the RTs and Color extcommunity attributes of PE1 and PE2 in the route-policy to filter routes.
  • Apply the Color value of the Hub device to the matched routes and change the next hop to the Hub device.

Because the Color extcommunity attribute carried in the next hop of the routes passing through the RR is the same as the Color value of the Hub device, traffic is transmitted through the Hub device. That is, the traffic passes through the tunnel between PE1 and the Hub device and then through the tunnel between the Hub device and PE2.
