(Optional) Configuring an EVPN RR

(Optional) Configuring an EVPN RR

Configuring an EVPN RR helps minimize the number of BGP-EVPN peer relationships on a network and simplify configuration.

After an EVPN RR is configured on a network, BGP-EVPN peer relationships are established only between PEs and the RR. This helps minimize the number of BGP-EVPN peer relationships on the network and simplify configuration. You can configure an existing device on the network as an RR or add a device to function as a standalone RR.

Perform the following steps on the device that is to function as an RR.

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run bgp as-number

    The BGP view is displayed.

  3. Run l2vpn-family evpn

The BGP-EVPN address family is enabled, and the BGP-EVPN address family view is displayed.

  4. Run peer { ipv4-address | group-name } enable

The capability to exchange EVPN routes with a peer or peer group is enabled.

  5. Run peer { ipv4-address | group-name } reflect-client

The local device is configured as an RR, and a peer or peer group is specified as the RR client.

  6. (Optional) Run undo policy vpn-target

The device is disabled from filtering received EVPN routes based on EVPN-VPN targets.
