Logging In to Linux HUAWEI CLOUD ECSs Using an SSH Password

Logging In to Linux HUAWEI CLOUD ECSs Using an SSH Password

Context

Linux ECS login using an SSH password is disabled by default. If you require this function, configure it after logging in to the ECS. To ensure system security, reset the common user password for logging in to the Linux ECS after configuring the SSH password-based ECS login function.

Prerequisites

  • The password for logging in to an ECS has been obtained.
  • You have bound a public EIP to the ECS. If you do not bind a public EIP to the ECS, bind one by following the instructions provided in Binding a HUAWEI CLOUD EIP to a HUAWEI CLOUD ECS.
  • You have configured the inbound rules of the security group to allow your local computer to access the ECS SSH port. For details, see Creating a Security Group.
  • The network connection between the login tool (PuTTY) and the target ECS is normal.

Procedure

Windows

To log in to the Linux ECS from a Windows computer, perform the following operations:

  1. Run PuTTY.
  2. Click Session and enter the public EIP of the ECS under Host Name (or IP address).
  3. Click Window. Then, select UTF-8 for Received data assumed to be in which character set: in Translation.
  4. Click Open.
  5. Enter the username and the password you set during ECS purchasing.

    • Username: root
    • Password: the one you set when you bought the ECS.

  6. Initialize the data disk for the HUAWEI CLOUD ECS.

If a data disk has been added to the HUAWEI CLOUD ECS, you must initialize the data disk before using it. For details, see section Initializing the Data Disk (in the Linux OS).

Linux

To log in to the Linux ECS from a Linux computer, perform the operations described in this section.

  1. ssh Public EIP bound to the ECS
  2. Initialize the data disk for the HUAWEI CLOUD ECS.

If a data disk has been added to the HUAWEI CLOUD ECS, you must initialize the data disk before using it. For details, see section Initializing the Data Disk (in the Linux OS).
