Installing the eSight Platform and Service Components

Installing the eSight Platform and Service Components

This section describes how to install the eSight platform and service components on the SUSE Linux operating system.

Prerequisites

  • Installation software has been obtained. For details, see Obtaining eSight Installation Software.
  • The network interface card (NIC) has been enabled.
  • A static IP address has been configured for the eSight server.

Context

  • Install the eSight management platform of the same version on the active and standby servers.
  • The components installed on the active and standby servers must be the same.
  • During the installation, the system automatically detects whether the OpenSSH service is enabled. If the OpenSSH service is disabled, the system forcibly enables it.
  • When the installation is complete, the system automatically creates a common user for the operating system. The user name is ossuser and the default password is Changeme_123. For details about how to change the password, see "Security Maintenance > Changing the Password > Changing the Password of the Operating System User > Changing the Password of the User for Linux" in the Maintenance Guide.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the Linux server as the root user.
  2. Run the following commands:

    # hares -online FloatIP -sys Name of the host where eSight is to be installed

    # hares -online Netlsnr -sys Name of the host where eSight is to be installed

    # hares -online RVGPrimary -sys Name of the host where eSight is to be installed

You can run the # hostname command to query the host name.

  3. Create a temporary directory, for example, /opt/install, on the eSight server to store installation files.

    • The eSight installation files must be stored in a local path.
    • The installation file directory and absolute path can contain only letters, digits, hyphens (-), tildes (~), underscores (_), and periods (.). Otherwise, the installation will fail.

    # mkdir -p /opt/install

  4. Upload the eSight installation package to /opt/install on the eSight server using FileZilla.

    # cd /opt/install

    # unzip eSight_V300R010C00SPC500_SUSE_x86_64.zip -d /opt/install/eSight

In the command, eSight_V300R010C00SPC500_SUSE_x86_64.zip is the eSight installation package.

  5. Run the following commands to start the eSight installation:

    # cd /opt/install/eSight

    # chmod u+x setup.sh

    # ./setup.sh

  6. Read the license agreement, select Read and Accept License Agreement, and click Install.

The system automatically checks whether the current environment meets the requirements for installing the eSight software. If not, a message will be displayed. Perform operations as prompted, ensure that all items meet the requirements, and then install eSight again.

  7. In the Set Installation Parameters window, set installation parameters and click Next.

If the installation directory does not exist, a message is displayed, indicating that the XXX directory does not exist and asking you whether to create it. Click Yes. The system automatically creates the directory.

    Table 5-15 Parameter description

    Parameter

    Configuration Requirements

    IP Address Type

Type of the eSight server IP address. Only IPv4 addresses are supported.

    Server IP Address

System IP address of the eSight server in Collecting Information.

    Server IPv6 Address

    This parameter cannot be set.

    Server Port

Port of the server. The default value is 8080. If port 8080 is in use, change it to another port number.

    Installation Directory

eSight software installation directory. The default value is /opt/eSight, which cannot be changed.

  8. On the Database Parameters page, set database parameters.

    1. Set the parameters by referring to Table 5-16.
      Table 5-16 Parameter description

      Parameter

      Configuration Requirements

      Database Server IP Address

      Retain the default value.

      Administrator Password

Enter the password of the database administrator. If the database administrator password does not meet complexity requirements, the installation stops. In this case, change the Oracle database administrator password. For details, see How Do I Change the Password of an Oracle Database User. After the installation is complete, you can use the maintenance tool to change the password.

      Database Port

The default port number is 31521. If the database port number is different from the default port number, manually enter the database port number.

      SID

The default instance name is esight. If the database instance name is different from the default instance name, manually enter the database instance name.

      NMS User Password

Password of the database NMS user. The system sets this parameter to the NMS user password, which is Changeme_123 by default. After the installation is complete, you can use the maintenance tool to change the password.

      Confirm NMS User Password

Confirm the password of the database NMS user. The value must be the same as the value of NMS User Password.

      Data file directory

Directory for storing data files. The default value is /opt/eSightData, which cannot be changed.

    2. Click Try.

If the system displays a message indicating that the database cannot be connected, check whether the IP address of the database server, password of the database administrator, port number of the database, and instance name are correct.

    3. If the connection is successful, click Next.

  9. On the Select Software Components To Be Installed page, select the components to be installed and click Next. For details, see component descriptions in the installation scenario section.

    • Component functions are controlled by licenses. If you do not purchase licenses, the functions are unavailable after installation.
    • The dimmed components are mandatory.
    • The functions of unselected components are unavailable after installation.
    • eSight components support incremental installation. If a component is not selected when eSight is installed, you can install the component when eSight is installed the second time. However, you need to ensure that the installation package version is the same as that of the running eSight.

  10. In the Summary window, confirm installation information and click Next.

    • If the installation information is correct, click Next.
    • If the installation information is incorrect, click Previous to reset installation information.

  11. Click Finish in the Installation Success dialog box that is displayed after the installation is complete.

The installation takes about 15 minutes.

  12. Run the following commands:

    # hares -offline Netlsnr -sys Name of the host where eSight is to be installed

    # hares -offline FloatIP -sys Name of the host where eSight is to be installed

  13. Repeat 1 to 12 to install the other server.
