Checking Hardware Connections

This section describes how to check hardware installation and cable connections before installing eSight. If hardware is improperly installed or cables are improperly connected, unexpected errors may occur during eSight installation.

Prerequisites

The server hardware has been installed and device cables have been connected. For details, see the eSight Hardware Installation Guide.

Procedure

  1. Ensure that the power cables and ground wires for all components are tightly connected and in good contact and that the polarities are properly placed.

    Generally, the server has two or more power modules for power supply redundancy. If the redundancy mode is enabled, ensure that power modules are connected to different power supplies. For details, see the eSight Hardware Installation Guide.

  2. Verify that all cables are bundled and their sheaths are free of damage.
  3. Verify that hardware connections and network cables are the same as those in the standard connection diagram.

    • The network interface numbers shown in the following figures may be different from those displayed on the operating system. After the server is powered on, you are advised to disconnect and connect network cables to determine the mapping between physical network interfaces on the server and network interfaces displayed on the operating system.
    • The two network cables directly connecting the active and standby servers must be enhanced category 5 cables and the length of the cables must be less than 60 meters.
    • Figure 5-1 shows the hardware connection diagram of the standard-configuration server with four network interfaces.

      • The system/application network interfaces of the active and standby servers are connected using a switch. As shown in the preceding figure, eth0 functions as the system/application network interface, and eth0 of the active server connects to that of the standby server using a switch.
      • The heartbeat/replication network interfaces of the active and standby servers are directly connected. As shown in the preceding figure, eth1 functions as the heartbeat/replication network interface, and eth1 of the active server directly connects to that of the standby server.
      • Two interfaces on another NIC are used to configure bond for the heartbeat/replication and system/application network interfaces. As shown in the preceding figure, eth2 and eth3 are used to configure bond.
      • The NIC on which the network interfaces used to configure bond are located must be different from the NIC on which the heartbeat/replication and system/application network interfaces are located.
      • The network cable for configuring bond must be separately connected to another switch.
    • The following assumes that the solution with six network interfaces and Huawei 2288H V5 standard-configuration server is used in the southbound and northbound isolation scenario.

      • The system/application network interfaces of the active and standby servers are connected using a switch. As shown in the preceding figure, eth0 functions as the system/application network interface, and eth0 of the active server connects to that of the standby server using a switch.
      • The heartbeat/replication network interfaces of the active and standby servers are directly connected. As shown in the preceding figure, eth1 functions as the heartbeat/replication network interface, and eth1 of the active server directly connects to that of the standby server.
      • The southbound network interfaces between the active and standby servers are connected using a switch. For example, eth4 in the preceding figure is used as a southbound network interface. The active and standby servers are connected using a switch.
      • The two network interfaces on another NIC are used to configure bond for the heartbeat/replication network interface, system/application network interface, and southbound network interface. For example, eth2, eth3, and eth5 are used to configure bond.
      • The NIC on which the network interfaces used to configure bond are located must be different from the NIC on which the heartbeat/replication and system/application network interfaces are located.
      • The network cable for configuring bond must be separately connected to another switch.

  4. Check the plugs and sockets.

    1. Ensure that the buckles of cable connectors are firmly locked and coaxial cable connectors are tightly fastened.
    2. Ensure that the pins in each socket are complete and in good order. Curved pins may cause short circuits.

Follow-up Procedure

  • Ensure that all debris (cable straps, stubs, or moisture-absorbent packets) is picked up.
  • Take unnecessary items out of the equipment room. Items in the equipment room should be placed in order. Keep the operation bench neat and tidy. Keep the raised floor level and clean.
